OpenGL and RivaTNT Problem

Hi there,

I wonder if you could help me. I dont know if you know anything about the
RivaTNT and OpenGL. I normally play most of my 3D games in OpenGL mode than
Direct3D. So I play Half-Life, Team Fortress Classic, Quake 2, Quake 3 Test
using the OpenGL drivers. OK, so I was playing these games as usual in
OpenGL mode, then a couple of days later I tried to play them again and
Half-Life gave me this message saying, The selected OpenGL mode is not
supported by your graphics card. Now this message is only suppose to show
if I dont have a 3D card, but I have a Creative RivaTNT 16MB card, and it
definitely does support it, as it was working perfectly a few days before.
In games like Quake 2 and Quake 3, which only support OpenGL, dont even
start. When I start Quake 2, I try and change to default OpenGL, then I
apply the settings and it reverts to software mode. And Quake 3 just gives
this error saying GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem. Now
to me what all these things are saying is that something has gone terribly
wrong with the OpenGL drivers. But I have done nothing to the drivers, haven
t even touched them, in the few days I didnt play games.

I have tried everything. Removing the drivers, re-installing the drivers and
using the latest drivers, and nothing has worked. I wonder if there is
someone out there who has had this problem before, or knows about the
problem, and could please tell me how to fix it.

Now what I was thinking of doing is, taking out the RivaTNT card, putting in
and old 2D card I have lying around here. Then deleting every possible file
that has to do with the RivaTNT. All drivers, dlls, vxds, OpenGL drivers,
registry settings, absolutely everything that has to do with the RivaTNT
card and OpenGL. Then from scratch, as if I have just bought the card, put
the RivaTNT card back in, and install everything from the beginning, and
hopefully that works. But I wont do that just yet incase someone knows of a
better way to re-install the OpenGL subsystem again.

Ok, thing you need to know about my computer.

P233MMX
64MB RAM
Creative RivaTNT
Creative SB Live Value
Creative PC DVD 2X ROM
Creative Dxr2 MPEG2 Card
Accton PCI Network Card
Windows 98

First things I did when I got the RivaTNT card is, install the drivers that
were on the CD, then went to Creatives website and downloaded the lastest
BIOS for the RivaTNT, then downloaded the lastest drivers for the card. OK,
Half-Life and Quake 2 were working fine then. Then I downloaded the RivaTNT
Detonator drivers from nVidias website, as I heard that those drivers were
more optimized, but they were the same as Creatives latest drivers, so I
uninstalled the nVidias Detonator drivers. Then Quake 3 Test came out, and
I downloaded that, and it said I needed the lastest OpenGL drivers from
OpenGLs website, called GLSetup. Now this GLSetup program was a BETA
version and it said that it would expire or something like that at the end
of July 99. Now the OpenGL drivers that I am using at the moment at the ones
I got from this GLSetup (RIVA TNT OpenGL ICD-nv4ogl.dll-v.4.11.01.0122). The
ones that came from Creative and nVidia, which are the latest from them are
(RIVA TNT OpenGL ICD-nv4ogl.dll-4.11.01.0109). Now as I have said I have
tried these older drivers, and still nothing is able to use OpenGL. Even
tried the drivers that came on the CD. Anyway after I installed the GLSetup
drivers, so that I could play Quake 3 Test, everything was still working
fine, Half-Life, Quake 2, Quake 3.

So if anyone out there can help me, please e-mail me back. I have sent this
exact letter into Creative and nVidia, but have not got a response from them
yet. This is the strangest thing that I have seen, it is like you were using
the computer the one day, then suddenly the next day the computer doesnt
even want to boot up. Very weird.

Thanks,
Lee (Dysector) York
