did you try rocket arena i think hill20 (king of the hill) is part of rocket
arena 


could be it's not the arena the game server is running
try having a look at the server with gamespy usually there will be some info 
telling you what mod the server is running 

when you join the server do you get a MOTD telling you about the server
if it's run by your ISP they may know what mod it is and were to get it.

its weird shaggy, i looked at the version, the hill20 map is in a server
version 2.30, i cant join that, it says i may need to download or purchase a
arena client pack, so i joined a arena server thats 2.40, got in fine, but
when i tried to join a 2.40 server with a map i dont have, 2towers it gave
me the same notice,  may need to download or purchase a arena client pack.
humm.
i noticed a *version 2.40 *z_ext 31 and *z_version 0.15dev {build 1360}in
the servers i can join, and *z_ext 1 *z_version 0.14 on the server i cant
join.
whats the differences shaggy ?

2.3/ 2.4 sounds like quakeworld server
normally qw will try and download missing maps etc if the admin allows it
i don't know why you can connect to one  and not the other
there is little differance between 2.4 and 2.3

perhaps it's your game directory name that's causing the problem
one server you may have arena in the game directory it's expecting the other
it's not, bit of a long shot.
ciuld also be that version arena is different to the one the server is using

have a look at the servers with gamespy. have a look at the game dir the servers
are using and also the server infomation. that ususal tells you were to get the
mod/maps the server requires and ususally has contact email addresses
