need help installing quake

I am having trouble installing quake. It is a registered version, not
shareware, but at the end of the installation it says it is shareware and
the game won't run. I have it installed on my other computer and works fine,
with win 98, also with several add ons. This system has an upgrade win98 os
after doing a reformat and reinstall of win95/98. I used to have just win 95
on this comp and quake installed fine then too, but can't get it to work
now. ARG! I have 96 mb memory, 200 mgz pentium processor. Not sure what
other info I need to give on my system. Hope someone can help, sorry this is
so rambling.

The shareware version is in the "sw" folder, make sure ur not installing
that.
Even if ur installing the shareware version it should work, what exactly
does it say when it wont run?

it says it is a shareware version and i must have the registered version to
play modified maps, which i'm not trying to do anyway, but it is the
registered version 1.06 that i bought and paid for years ago.. I explored
the cd and there are no folders called sw, just the install.bat which I used
to install it from the dos prompt.

You sure its the official CD, its brown IIRC. I think they only put V1.01
on the official
CD. Like shaggy said make sure theres a pak1.pak which means its
registered.
Have you tried installing from msdos mode?

The "ULIMATE QUAKE" Buddle i know does have a windows installer that
installs Dos Quake 1.08, WinQuake and GLQuake (Depending on the
options you set) But this is probably off Subject but I just wanted to
share the Knowledge :) Hopes this helps
