Hey you guys, I'm so proud of you !
As you, I believe that Quake (the first, the real one or whatever you
call it) is still alive !

I still play with my friends with on Windows XP. Just don't forget
not install 3Dfx's glide dlls. It works great.

You can't know how I'm happy when I discover new mods for Q1 or
engine update such as q tenebrae.

But I've a question :
Could you explain, how I can a get Quake running under an
UNIX/Xwindow ?

I guess, I should get a particular executable but where ?
I went on some web site which pretend to dispose some quake engine's
sources. But it is only qworld/glquake sources ...
Or some tried to explain how to run quake under UNIX, but it doesn't work.

I still have my Original Quake CD ;-)
But with my friends, we think that the best game ever made is the mod
for Quake, the 1st. Even Q2 and Q3 maps are not so cool.

Never forget McKingley's base !

See ya!

There are 2 main Q1 clients for Unix/Linux/FreeBSD.

Zquake: 2 flavours, X or Console. Both versions are included in the
download.
There is only one file to setup under most versions of *nix,
/etc/vga/libvga.config, this is the file for libSVGA needed to run under
console mode, for X it's just a case of running the zqwcl-x11 program from
the quake directory.
Quakeforge: another *nix Quake client, much the same as zquake, exactly the
same to set up.

http://www.quakeforge.net

I use Zquake most but thats not to say that it's better.

Me and loads of others play a lot on various servers online, it's still one
of the finest games known to man and i wouldn't install anything else.

If you are seriously looking for online quake fun check out these pages....

http://www.planetfortress.com/teamfortress/

And get XQF and Qstat for finding servers to play on.
Finally, Look us up on 217.199.176.133:27500, or 169.207.30.122:27511
both of the servers i'm regularly on as [EaT]The_ShadoW.
