I like this idea of faux quake wad reviews to pass the time (even if the newbies don't
understand that they're fake), so here's my contribution!
Wad Name: Danzig7
Author: They never credit, so who knows? Now that Aikman is gone, I dunno who to blame.
Pros: Has some areas of high quality, because they were copied from other wads. Same goes with
most textures and sounds.
Cons: Their tendency to use plenty of copywritten data shows their disregard in the genre they're
trying to support and using other people's work to supplement their own (without giving
credit or asking permission) really doesn't help Dwango or id (dwango creators/supporters)
image at all.
Level01: Like all dwango in recent memory, for level one they just took the easy way out and did
ANOTHER map01 remake. Using, of course, Raphael Quinet's DM2Quake converter, they once
again showed off their ability to ignore anything sacred, desecrating id's perfect
map01 (note they used id's textures too, something probably not all that surprising to
most). The changes made to the level: Rather than try to tweak the existing areas, the
authors simply added some poorly modeled outsides areas and filled the inner area with
one way hiding places where keyboarders could camp off wandering players without being
seen (naturally their maps have to cater to keyboarders because, well, they don't notice
what's blatantly wrong with them). The one interesting thing they did was allow you to
reach the bfg/rocket/shotgun start via a stairway from the single barrel shotgun outside
area. By providing a staircase up there, you're actually able to walk around on top
of the level and fall through the one way walls that make up the ceilings (it's quite
interesting to see a rocket explode in mid air in a gusher of guts from somebody who
slipped on the roof).
Level02: Why bother commenting past level 1? Nobody plays past the first level anyway and if
there's any good levels past the first, more than likely you'll be able to find them in
somebody elses compilation, such as the danzigs.
New Sounds:
Of course! More copyright infringements of course, that is. The usual stock of Beavis
and Butthead sounds accompany a serving of Hexen 2: Beyond Short Range Weapons sounds
that I'm sure Raven doesn't mind them using without their permission.
New Graphics:
Well, not exactly new. They've ripped off the original DOOM2 textures and digitized
some pix from magazines that they wish they looked like..
Deathmatch Mode:
If its good for anything, that'd be it, or maybe if you needed some id stuff but
didn't have the DOOM2.wad around..
Cooperative Mode:
I doubt the kind of people that play these wads have heard of anything besides "DM1" or
"DM2".
Conclusion:
Another piece of standard dwango drek. You'd think they'd at least do something original
like flip the levels they copy on their x-axis or take advantage of the engine they're
using. Oh well, at least I got to hear what Beavis & Butthead sounds like underwater!!

Avatar also ? Which server do you use most often ? You mentioned Aikman... I assume, then, Dallas.

I used to call dwango now and again (the Dallas one, Aikman gave me free credit on there at one point) but gave it up cause it was long distance. Besides, I'm at college now so dwango ain't something I have access to (not to mention that back home there's a multiplayer bbs that only charges $15 for a month of unlimited time..). Btw I have a tendency to say "danzig" when I mean to say "dwango", did that twice in that original post, doh. -*Avatar*-
