Quake wad review #2 Game: Quake beta v1.0 Wad name: dethpit.wad Author: Joe splatter Overall: A very good wad for the quake beta. This one is almost as good as the ID levels. Level Design: Like the name suggests, this level has a massive pit of death in a large central room. This is good for deathmatch, because if a player tries to run away from combat, they most likely get sucked into the hole. This level also has a few outdoor areas that are small and have no hiding places. A few water areas. Monsters: One or two knights, but lots of traps. Plenty of scavangers to keep the bodies from piling up. Things: A few torches to keep things light, but not enough other things. I only counted two trees in the outdoor areas, and that's it. Score: 86% Very good for deathmatch.

Anyway, for all you Quakeophiles, I just got off the phone with a friend who works at PC Gamer... anyway I can leak this out: the editors got to play around with the engine, which was running off of a Pentium 3D Blaster from Creative Labs (not sure if the 3DB is officially released yet) and supposedly it looks fantastic, running around 20-30fps, I'm assuming SVGA mode. There are NO monsters yet <cough> and there is by all means NO beta <double cough.> Kids these days... sheeze. Col
