I'd rather not get into an argument, but this MAC vs PC crap is
getting very old.
This newsgroup is a quake newsgroup.
Fine, Quake will probably be ported to Mac.
Quake will be originally intended for PC.
Those are some facts.
Now then, I'll put in a good word for PC's while im here.
PC users have a choice of many operating systems:
LINUX, DOS, DOS-Windows, Windows 95, OS/2, others.
Macs use Macintosh system 7. Period.
This difference has obvious implications on the number of
software programs available for the PC, ie there are many more
programs that can be used on the PC.
Cheers.
PS. My new-years resolution is not to reply to flames.

This doesn't make sense.

The PC doesn't have more applications than the Mac because of multiple
operating system support. The PC has more because of its greater
market penetration.

Besides, it's not like there are that many Linux and OS/2 programs out
there (relatively speaking of course).

Sure it does (see rest of message here)

Yes, it has more applications for BOTH of these reasons. It has better
market penetration AND more operating systems.
What i really should have said in the first message is that PC's are
more flexible because of these operating system options.

There are quite a few, if youre willing to look.

"quite a few" usually refers to a large amount... its a figure
of speech i guess. There is definitely alot, because ive heard
of a 4-CD set packed with linux stuff... Not bad... and thats
just shareware and freeware. Then there's the GNU project... whew.

You can get / will be able to get WordPerfect for Linux. There are Dos and
Windoze emulators which are getting pretty good now (esp dosemu).

All the fun unix stuff has been ported, especially i-net stuff. (just think
of ftp.idsoftware.com).

I said relatively, as in relative to DOS/Windows. I know there are
thousands of shareware/freeware sub-commercial quality programs out
there for Linux/Unix, but frankly I don't care.

The original post I replied to said that more PC software is sold than
Mac software because the PC had more operating systems available for
it. I countered by saying 'no, it's because the installed base is
larger.' The original poster then agreed.

The mention of Linux and OS/2 was made to further my argument about
installed base vs. multiple operating system. People aren't choosing
PC over Mac because it has more operating systems, or because of
Linux/OS/2 programs. The big-ass collection of commercial quality
Dos/Windows apps and games is the reason.

Oh, just one more, please??? Okay...

GNU project, hell... Unix has been around longer than the C programming
language, and that was '73. Yeeeek! What year is this???? :^) If that isn't
a *pile* of software crap, I don't know what is...
