would like to warn you that if you don't cease and desist using your bootleg
copy of Win95, something *really* bad will happen to you.
(there really is no threat to a single user, especially one outside of the
US's jurisdiction, US copyright laws may or may not be similar in other
countries, and penalties are, if existent, unenforceable by US law)

Ah, well, no, we can't actually cause this bad thing to happen, but believe
us, it will.
(basically, you're relying on the moral sense of people in general, since
copying will always occur and it's impossible to enforce copyright laws on a
personal basis)

Oh, how did we know?  Uh, oh, well, nevermind, sorry for the intrusion.
(here's the kicker, if MS *were* to 'snoop' in such a manner, they could,
conceivably be held accountable legally.  if, as the paranoics suggest, MS
is gleaning all information from individual's systems, that is akin to
illegal wiretaps, et. al.)

In any case, you don't HAVE to send MS the information it requests about the
components you have installed for IE4.
