This is to you GODS at ID if you get word of this:
Some of my hopes for QUAKE arre as follows:
1. multiple characters from which to choose (and possibly edit within
given parameters). Characters of different races, sex, and species might
broaden the appeal of the game? Also characters of different warrior
classes would be cool (ie: barbarians, berserkers, mages, ninjas,
samurias, thieves/rogues, etc x 1000.
2. Another important feature would be the "physical" appearance of the
character to others in multi-player games thus enabling the players to
establish an identity. An identity is an important factor if the game is
to be a "virtually" real world (unlike doom series where opponents are
simply different colors). It would also be MUCH better if the weapon in
use by a certain charater would appear as such to other players (unlike
doom series where the weapon is always a rifle).
3. Rumors regarding QUAKE describe a 'virtual world' in which multiplayer
games with 100+ players will be possible. I wonder if there will be levels
or will there be one HUGE virtual landscape? In any case I am hoping that
there will be less in the way of mazes and more outdoor gameplay!
Intruiging landscapes such as hills, valleys, small cities, mountains,
etc. A landscape with weather conditions and night and day (actual time or
half-time) would be WAY cool.
4. I have heard that the chat mode in QUAKE will involve actual
voice-compression. This concept is ever so impressive and I hope it will
be included in the game!
5. The idea of not including music is a GREAT one!! I love the idea of
having ambient and natural sounds. I hope my SB AWE32 will be compatible?!
6. I hope also that the modem play will not allow anything under 14,400
that way it would not decrease game performance! 28.8 would optimal
although not many people have them yet (that would change with the
release of quake).
I'm not telling you folks at ID how to make QUAKE in any way. I (and the
rest of us) have TOTAL confidence you all. I have yet to see a single
game that comes close any of the DOOM series (DOOM1, 2 , and HERETIC).
You all have my total admiration!!! KEEP the EXCELLENT work!!!
ps. most of my "hopes for QUAKE" have been agreed upon with MANY other
FANATICAL DOOMERS!!!!!
THANKS!!!!!!
