First of all, monster damage: If they plan to texture map the various objects and monsters, it shouldn't be too hard to have a couple of extra texture maps which could be mapped over top of the regular ones in order to portray damage. Secondly, hand-to-hand combat: I like the idea of being able to beat on someone with a huge hammer but id would definitely need to change one thing that they did wrong with Doom. That is, when two creatures collide, they slide off of each other giving you only a split second to take a swing. This is a real drag. When two creatures bump into each other, they should do just that, bump into each other. They should stop each other's progress. Of course, it would be neat to have a tackle attack as well. Knock your opponent to the ground, take out the hammer, and embed his head in the ground! Thirdly, monster damage again: It would be tremendous if there were a breed of creatures that regenerated if given time. That is if you didn't finish the job, they would heal up. Now I don't like the idea of simple hit point regeneration. Instead, they should be undead type creatures. If you whack them enough, a limb falls off. If it's the head, they're toast. If it's a leg, they're helpless. If it's an arm... they pick it up and stick it back on! That shouldn't be too hard to do either. Just define a number of similar looking creatures in various states of limb- lackingness! When a limb is knocked/blown off, substitute the current creature with a maimed creature in a similar stance. If they don't want to make the creature pick up the piece, just have it stand near it and the piece can animate itself and float back into place. This would be the ultimate! Imagine fighting a huge hoard of undead creatures. You fell them one by one as you wade through their ranks only to have them regenerate behind you. The only way to kill them would be to decapitate them or completely annihilate them (say with a bolt of lightning)! Still dreaming, Rob Vanden Heuvel
