: Well, seeing how a lot of people are complaining about Quake, you : are forgetting that Id will upload the server code. Therefore, : It doesn't really matter if there is one weapon, or if it is a : fantasy setting. Since there will be so much freedom in what you can : do, you could easily add on a crossbow, a broadsword, or even a shot- : gun if you really wanted to. Also, if you don't like the setting or the Wrong. Well, you MAY be able to do that, but NOT because you have the server code. Modifications to weapons would most DEFINITELY require client modifications as well. I can guarantee you that the clients will be doing much more than simply displaying graphics; more likely, the server will be at a fairly removed level, simply keeping the clients synced, and perhaps moving NPCs/monsters. : Most likely a lot of location based Quake server "arcades" are : going to be set up. Each one might develop their own little version of : Quake for play.. I just hope they aren't as expensive as Virtual World :) Not too likely (the "own little version" thing) that they'll modify the code for the clients, which they won't have. ON THE OTHER HAND, id has said that Quake will be very open, in the same vague manner as doom but much moreso. So, while you can't reprogram it at the base level, you may be able to completely change the game by making new monsters, items, perhaps even weapons, in a file akin to a .WAD (to use the Doom metaphore). -- ________________ _______________________________________________ / Damian Frank \ / "In order to make an apple pie from scratch, \ | dam...@wpi.edu | you must first create the universe." | | WPI ECE '97 | -- Carl Sagan, Cosmos | \________________/ \_______________________________________________/
