MKII was always my favorite, and now that I've discovered MAME I've been playing it nonstop (rev 3.1). I didn't remember the AI opponents being so damn cheap, though... blocking attacks I can't block, performing throws and sweeps when I can't, etc. My roommates and I spent an hour trying to get past Kitana with no luck... on easy mode! Is there a later revision with more reasonable AI? Or do we just suck? ;) --Monolith

What side are you playing on? The computer AI is significantly harder if you are player 1. Play on the player 2 side, and it will get easier. Gimme Side 1 and I'll rock all day long. There was a "jumping" loophole you could use with certain characters on side 1 that took a little timing to work but you'd end up wining the fight with uppercuts. They key was to use any of the male ninjas, Cage, Shang, Jax, and Baraka. When the CPU would get close to you, jump backwards. If you time it right, the CPU will either high punch the air or will stop dead in their tracks for a split second then leap at you. You'll be on the ground to upper cut them out of the air 9 times out of 10. You have to time it right otherwise that high punch will hit you in the feet and knock you back. If you get cornered, let the CPU toss you then continue the "jumping back" technique to goad them into leaping at you again. This only works on Side 1 with those fighters I mentioned. If you try it on side two, the CPU will do a straight-up jump kick ever single time (unless you're Kung Lao - which may miss and you'll be able bullet kick them out of it). I'd love to play MAME but I can't. All I have for a PC joypad is that 3DFX/Interact HammerHead FX (the original SV-262) and InterAct apparent will not be making WinXP drivers for this version of the HammerHead due to legalities (since Nvidia bought the 3Dfx name and assets). And I don't know if the Win9x drivers for it will work with XP. Haven't wanted to risk trying them. Pisses me off... > On 8 Mar 2002, Jesse McGrew wrote: > > > MKII was always my favorite, and now that I've discovered MAME I've > > been playing it nonstop (rev 3.1). I never knew about that player one trick--good to learn about that. Another method that works for Player 2 with all characters is to position yourself about one jump away from the opponent. If you do it just at the right distance and start walking towards the computer player, they will start to walk backwards away from you. Just maintain that same distance, and keep following them until they are cornered. I think it has to be version 2.1 or 3.1 though. This takes practice, but is not too hard to do. when the computer opponent is cornered, they will fire a projectile at you, at which point you jump at them a do a massive combo of your choice. With certain players against certain players, such as if you're using Shang Tsung, instead of jump kicking the computer, you can just land at their feet and begin elbowing them repeatedly until they die. the computer can't defend against this, or at least certain payers can't.
