I think this is exactly how it goes, but the gist will be the same.

"500 years ago Shang Tsung was transported into the Earth Realm to take
over earth and turn it over to the Furies. With the aid of his pupil
Goro he took over the Shaolin Contest. He almost accomplished his goal,
but 7 warriors defeated him.

"Facing execution for the failed attempt and the apparent Death of Goro,
Shang Tsung appeals to the mighty Shao Khan.

"Tsung's plan is to lure his enemies into the Outworld where they will
personally meet death at the hands of Shao Khan."

It has some kewl grafX too.

I saw the whole intro, and there were no individual descriptions of
characters. Sorry.

This explains why the characters appear to be retouched by hand rather
than purely digitized--to get rid of the wrinkles!  I mean, how would
you look if you were over 500 years old?

Sonya was late getting her entry to the tournament due to a previously
scheduled facelift.  And Kano was too busy searching around for
batteries for his eye-thingy.  :-)
