The California Attorney General wants to ban Mortal Kombat from all California arcades, the rental of the MK cartridges that're available in stores like Blockbuster, and maybe even the sale of MK cartridges for all home use [the last part was the only part I'm not sure on, as the local tv news station didn't make it clear about this]. It's amazing how censorship seems to be getting worse. I think if parents know what games the kids play, and are able to convey to them that the game isn't real life and that it's very wrong to act the same violent way as in the game, that this should solve the problem of these censorship groups wanting to ban all really popular fighting games. It's much better kids play these type of games as an outlet, rather than doing much worse things. cn(:)

you see .. these censorship people don't think this way tho ..
they think that if a kid (hell, even an adult) plays MK .. then they're
going to go and rip someone's head off, breathe fire on them, etc.
It could happen!
:)

Yeah, i carry large energy knives around with me, and my grappling torpedo.
I hate censorship...especially game censorship. Whoever heard of arcade
game censorship.

They wont ban it. Well maybe they'll ban the blood version, but you can
turn off the blood and fatalities in the arcade version (or at least
get one with it turned off). In a big arcade here, MK is set up on a big
screen, and there is no blood nor fatalities (sucks, the fatalities that
is), but the small screens are ok.
If the Cal Att Gen can ban it what will end up happening is sipmly
turning off the fatalities, unless they are really church-lady
like then you wont have blood at all (though I think thats stupid
comparing it to most other arcade games).
"and he reaches into his opponents chest and rips out his still-beating
heart" - as if this is the whole game! I think someone in charge
should look into pulling the broomstick out of his ass. Maybe he
should worry more about guns being sold in 7-11s than arcade
games :)

It's a simple matter for parents to... get ready for this, it's groundbreaking philosophy... NOT BUY the offfending cartridge!! Wow, to think they can actually refuse to buy this cartridge they hate so much! It's called freedom of choice, and it's one of the principles this country was founded upon, and they can look it up in the library if they have any left when they're done burning all the books. Parents whine and complain: "But I never KNOW what these games are about.. Johnny asks for it for Christmas and I just buy it by title" well then it's no longer the game company's problem. It's THEIR problem. - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - Mike/garion@indirect.com/SD[MAX] Images & Words 1993/sydest2.com sysadmin You'll find all you need in your mind, if you take the time - Dream Theater - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + -
