While working out in the gym tonight, I spied an article in the entertainment section of USA Today. Happy Happy Happy, Joy Joy Joy! It was an interview with the Mortal Kombat cast (Divizio, Malecki, Pak and the Pesina brothers). The article, from memory (I refuse to give one penny to USA Today): The main focus of the article was how they got to be the characters in the video game. Apparently, my dad was right: It's not who you are, it's who you know. John Tobias and Ed Boon (the major software engineers if I remember correctly) grew up with the cast members while living in Chicago. Most of the crew (Malecki excepted) were involved in martial arts, so when Tobias and Boon needed characters, they contacted them. They had Malecki do Sonya since she had the strong-and-beautiful looks they were looking for (Malecki learned most of the moves from the rest of the crew). Malecki normally does dancing. The amusing thing was to learn just how much notoriety they get once they're recognized. Several times they've been challenged to play MK, but they decline, saying (paraphrased) "Some of these kids are good". Hmmm, wonder if they meant us ;-) The article included two pictures, one of the crew doing simultaneous jump kicks (or were they hop kicks ;-), and the other showing them huddled together in various poses. Malecki, Pak, and Dan Pesina wore Sonya, Lie Kang and Johnny Cage garb. Divizio and Carlos Pesina just wore gi pants and T-shirts. The most amusing feature of the cluster photo was the Pesina brothers. Dan was doing a semi-split and had the Johnny Cage "Yeah!" victory smirk (sunglasses included). Carlos had his hands hooked in the all-too-familiar Raiden fatality pose, complete with evil grimace. Priceless!!! Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Shang Tsung and Goro were conspicuously absent :-) Gary Parnes /============================================================================\ | "You're obviously misinformed.
