I have some problems when I try to connect two computers with TTD.
I want to use the IPX protocol, but I can`t get any connection.

How do I make a IPX connection in DOS???

Please help!!!

First of all, you can't make an IPX connection through DOS.
So, you need a network card in each machine, I'm assuming you've already
done that though. Now in your Network Neighborhood icon on your desktop,
left click to get Properties. Click on the Protocols tab and install IPX
through there, if there are any other protocols installed leave them there
as well. Hope this is what you needed to know.

I have a network and it`s working find in Windows! The big problem is
that TTD won`t run in Windows 95. The other problem is that the other
computer I want to connect to are running Windows NT, and TTD won`t run
in NT either. So I have to run TTD in DOS. Since TTD is a DOS
application it must be possible to make a connection without Windows? Do
you know how I do it?

Although this has nothing to do with what you are saying, I'd just like
to ask you why you haven't started playing the competition yet.
The rules and the scenario are finalised on Chris's site.

Do you know why it won't work?
I know TT won't work in NT - 2 reasons - one of them was about the COM
ports - NT doesn't like things like games trying to run them directly, and
the second was VGA - NT doesn't have proper support for it or something (I
know they called me Mr Vague for some reason!!!)

Anyway, I can run TT in Win9x with no problems... (which I know doesn't help
you) but can't see why you can't.....

And why can't you run IPX in DOS?? I'm sure you can - so long as you have
the 16bit DOS drivers... as you say, TT is a DOS game, and I remember doing
it all when our network was Windows 3.11. Did you get a shiny disc with the
network cards?

If I try to run TTDLX in Win95, I sometimes get no sound, and other times
the game frequently locks up and runs slowly, but it never crashes. I always
play in DOS, the proper way to play.

A mother and father took their 6 year old son to a nude beach. As the boy
walked along the beach, he noticed that some of the ladies had boobs
bigger than his mother's, and asked her why.
She told her son, "The bigger they are the dumber the person is."

The boy pleased with the answer, goes to play in the ocean but returns to
tell his mother that many of the men have larger 'units' than his dad.

His mother replied, "The bigger they are the dumber the person is."

Again satisfied with this answer, the boy returns to the ocean to play.

Shortly after, the boy returned again. He promptly told his mother, "Daddy
is talking to the dumbest girl on the beach and the longer he talks, the
dumber he gets."

If you can run IPX in DOS, I'd like to hear about it. Doesn't TT run in
NetBEUI anyway??

Yesterday I checked it out. Unless my monitor is showing something else,
you can choose between three types of connection: Serial Cable, Modem
and Network - IPX protocol.

So my conclution would be that it has to be a way to connect it with
IPX. After all I don`t care how or what type of connection TTD is using,
I just want to use my Network card in TTD.

I also tried to d/l some kind of 3c503-driver. I seemed to be no problem
to find the network card, but when I try to load the driver I get this
error: "The LSL is not loaded"

What does that mean? Do anyone know??

Have you tried playing from windows. TTD works find on my computer
from windows, both the patch and the normal game. This may be worth a
try. Also, failing that try the following. From the DOS prompt type in

Net Start
Net Logon

This _should_ start the network drivers. You must do this on both
computers. I am not positive this will work, and I even think that if
you use windows drivers then it probably won't, but it's worth a try.

When I run TTD in Windows I sometimes get a error: Out of stack memory
(or something like that).

Do you know how I solve this problem?

I had TT running on IPX in MS-DOS before. You need to find/download the
file lsl.com - this must be run first. After this, run the hardware-
specific file which you downloaded (something like 3c5x3.exe). After
that is loaded, you are ready to load your protocol. You need to edit
a file called net.cfg and then run ipxodi.com from within the same
directory. Usually, net.cfg is in a ready-to-edit state if you get
it with the other files.

I have these files somewhere, but I have lost track of them. Do a web
search on those filenames, you should come up with something you can
(legally) download. I think 3com's site has some, even.

BTW depending on where you get them, these files are either written by
Novell for their Netware OS (an original Netware 3 network properly set
up runs TT fine) or are reverse engineered to run the same.

Look up Caldera's web site, these progs came with OpenDOS, which they
released free (it was based on DR-DOS code). I think it's now just
Novell DOS, but it's freely available.

HTH. YMMV.

How much RAM do you have? It's never said that to me, and I have run
it on 64MB and 96MB. It probably means that you don't have enougth
memory free, or enougth swap space free. I'd suggest you check both.
Otherwise I don't know. HTH

Check in your root directory for a config.sys file. If you have one, edit it
with notepad and see if there is a "Stacks" command (make a copy first). If
so, try rem'ing this line out by putting a semi-colon at the start of the
line.

Win95...
TTD is a DOS program, remember!
