Network play crashes

Hi,

I was trying to play the Windows version of TTDX through LAN, and I
encountered several problems. Both computers were running WinXP,
TTDPatch 2.0 rev 1, and TCP/IP as the network game method.

The problems:

1. The game started at year 1930, and there were no locomotives
available to build. Only one vehicle, a bus, in the road vehicle
section.

2. Attempting to build a bus, by pressing the "Build Vehicle" button,
immediately resulted in a total crash of the game. It just halted
right there.

I also tested an older version of TTDPatch, with which I could play
some 20 minutes before crash. Reloading autosaved game did not help
much, since it crashed again quite soon.

Now, is there any solution to this? Perhaps a version of TTDPatch that
is known to work better than others with network play? Some
configuration option?

You read ofcourse the manual, so you know why there is no train. 2nd you
can better use the later alpha version of the patch those are realy
stable. You can find the latest alpha (16) at the sourcecode page of
www.ttdpatch.net

If you go to http://www.ttdpatch.net/src/ you can download the "test"
version of the next Patch. Be warned, it is still under development,
so there might be some bugs in it that have not yet been dealt with.

However, one of the BIG new features is that network play is now very
close to being stable. Games do crash occasionally (but much less
frequently than before), and when they do crash, you don't lose
everything - you can instead download a tool called SV2flip, which
re-synchronises the games on the two computers.

The latest test versions work better in multiplayer, but still not very good
(one crash every 10 minutes I think)

That's no problem, because we have SV2flip. But I can't get SV2flip to work
under Windows XP. Windows Me is no problem, SV2flip works good, but I don't
like Windows Me, so is it possible to make SV2flip work under XP?

Really? The only thing that has been reported to me is that the bribe
option still doesn't work in multiplayer games. Otherwise it was reported
to be 100% stable. Are you sure you've tried the 2.0.1 alpha version?

I can think of no reason why it wouldn't work. In what way does it not
work, what error messages do you get?

Yes, I'm sure I used the latest alpha version when I tested it 2 weeks ago.
I now don't have someone to play against, so I can't test it right now.

The error message is:

sv2flip V0.03 - flip TTD players. Copyright <C> 2003 by Josef Drexler.
Decoding TRT02.SV2 <using sv1codec>
Name: Gerben Transport, 2nd Jul 1931
'\sv1codec' is nor recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Can't run sv1codec, make sure it's installed <No error>
Press any key to abort.

It reads the name of my game correct, but none of my savegames work this
way. I installed SV1tool in the same directory as SV2flip, so that shouldn't
be the problem.

With this information, can you tell me what's wrong? If I copy the whole
directory to a Windows Me computer, it works well.

Strange. How are you running it exactly?

It seems as though it would help if you copy sv1codec into your c:\
folder (or whatever drive TTD is on).

XP/2000 seem to do some strange things with passing the program path to
the program being run...

Thanks, that helped.
