Here's some exciting news:
aglami.com is finally available again!

If I could be bothered, I'd register it and point it to aglami.net, but
I doubt that would make any difference to posting rates.

I still have close to 100 hundred unread posts, and the number is only
increasing rather than decreasing. How can I fix that?

Don't you think that would be too much effort? Are you on some sort of
drugs that makes you hyperactive?

Invent a new numbering system. One with smaller number as the posts mount. You
can do it! Any self declared omnipotent dictator can.

Hex. Less digits and FF unread posts just seems cool.

Perhaps that's just me liking a danish beer called FF...

Clever marketing. FF is just about the only thing a thoroughly drunk person can

Yeah, ever tried to say "one more elephant, please?" drunk?

I have managed it too many times to count. Perhaps because I do not

When you're too drunk too say elephant you may just be seeing pink elephants, a
thing you might want to convey to the people around you. Ironic you can't do so,
all that comes out is FF. They then promptly serve you the thing that caused the
problem in the first place...

Yeah, life is hard. I actually did not get a FF for a long time. Or an

I think that must be CSI Boston, the yet-to-be-aired television series.

Is Boston famed for family feuds fueled with Christmas puddings? No wonder
they'd rather spend their time in a bar listening to the trivia uttered by Cliff

No sense of smell? I had an army roommate with the same "feature". It was very
handy. He let me put my army boots on the heating system. One has to be
seriously smell-deaf to allow that where you sleep. The only smell he ever
noticed was when he had barfed into a leaky metal bin at night after a beer bender.

I assume that did not smell like roses. Or steak.

I would indeed be impressed if one could make roses smell like that. Although it
might be somewhat doable. I've smelt pretty rancid flowers that had rotted to a
mush. The water it was in had turned to raw sewage with plant material. The rest
of the house was in fine order though.

I bet the roses smelling of steak would be quite popular.

It's amazing how bad water from flowers can smell. Which is why I try

That day in the flower shop:

"I'd like one dozen roses."
"Medium or rare?"

I think the ten foot Pole ate the steak long before you'd be able to come close
to touch him.

Translation: Reinder had an underpayed summer job as a laborer in one of the
more unpleasant industries. Every labor law in the book was likely broken there.
You know, silly stuff like health and safety, maximum number of hours worked,
minimum wage and the employement of minors in hazardous conditions. He probably
peeled flower bulbs too on a pay per crate bases instead of hourly rates. It
inspired him to go to university and flee to a much more pleasant country with
vastly better labor conditions.

Nah, he wouldn't. Polish people are genetically incapable of eating
steak. All they eat is pierogi, which is a shameless copy of the
Chinese jiaozi.

However, even though the Poles are Aglami's number one enemy, I must
say I've always kind of liked them in real life.

Actually, it was not underpaid, but one and a half gulden above the
minimum wage (per hour). Also, conditions were pretty good, and most
of the time we only had to cut roses. All in all it was a pretty good
way for a 16 year old to save money to travel around Australia two
years later.

Of course working conditions here in China are awesome, especially in
the mines or at construction sites.

If you want to read up on something interesting by the way, have a
look at the story of the Chinese real estate bubble. All over the
country they are building literally thousands of high-rise apartment
blocks, yet most of them are as good as empty because people cannot
afford the apartments. There are even a few cities meant for a
population of more than a million, yet the streets are as empty as
Dutch streets are when the Netherlands is playing at the football
world championship thing.

Any time one says "it's (slightly) more than minimum wage" it means underpaid.
Even when comparing to average wage, it may still be quite a bad pay. On top of
that: any work they can't find adults for with a contract for life, is undesirable.

I've wandered the silent streets at such a moment. It's scary. Not because of
the eerie silence. But because you know any moment now thousands of orange clad
maniacs may run out of their houses either celebrating a win and losing some of
their alcohol intake or they'll come out and punch anyone who's not in orange
clothing to dull the pain of a loss.

Dobze = good. Great even.

There are no true Asian markets here. Just a few very small toko's that do not
look too

Three times. But that was over 8 years ago. Poland has since come to me. The
number of Polish license plates (and Bulgarian ones), former co-workers and
neighbors is starting to add up over here. Local supermarkets even have half
aisles with Polish import stuff.

I've worked with people who were kept in such a job because they had brain
damage. Brain damage caused by a work accident due to an unsafe work environment.

It caused one guy in particular to fall several meters onto a because he lost
his balance when doing cleaning duties. There was supposed to be a railing
there. Besides memory difficulties he, oh irony, also wasn't able to keep his
balance all that well. He couldn't run because of that, just shuffle. Talking
didn't go too well either.

I myself have been in situations where they neglected to tell me I was supposed
to wear safety gear like metal tip shoes.

Yet you chose to blend in with over a billion tiny Chinese folk whilst you come
from a land of tall pale people with freaky round eyes... You couldn't draw more
attention to yourself if you wore an orange Bavaria-dress whilst blowing a
vuvuzela. You'd actually draw less of a crowd since most would flee such a
sight. Just in case it was as contagious there as in the Netherlands. The people
here don't even have a good excuse for such behavior. It's not like Orange is
playing particularly spectacular or like they all have brain damage because of
missing railings.

Not quite a man of low moral fiber, more one of low motor skills.

I haven't done any real scaffolding. Just a trolley to hang theater lighting and
racks in a distribution center. Got up to 7 or 8 meters though. I threatened the

my threat serious enough, so he lived.

we know what's in store for future generations. A bull fighting matador for
prince consort.

We'll never hear from him again if we send him of to fight the windmills called
providers. Wait, we never *do* hear from him here anyway! Maybe he's already gone?
