Reinder, you should submit that picture in you latest blog post to
engrishfunny.com. Now try and make a photograph of one of those baby soldiers.
They should be cute as a button.

Shhh...I am trying to be pretending to not noticing the 105 unread new
posts to Aglami. Maybe if I do that long enough, they will disappear.

I cannot submit the photo however, because it is against my policy to
help sites make money with the things I produce. That's why I'm also
against posting on http forums that have ads!

As for the Engrish though, it is all over the place! For instance, the
apartment building where I live has a big safety regulations board in
the hall downstairs saying something about not connecting too many
wives directly to the electricity box.

Engrishfunny is a new one to add to my RSS feeds however!

I trust you block all ads so they won't make any move off of you?

I've opted not to put it in RSS, it's in a firefox bookmark folder that I open
daily with similar stuff. Like fail blog, a sister site of Engrish I think.

Well, I don't mean making money off of me by showing me ads, which I
do block indeed, but making money off of me by stuff that I submit.

You can also do it the Pixel way. Pixel has not yet figured out what
this RSS thing is, so he's made a website with a list of links to all
websites he regularly visits. Every few days, he visits his own
website and clicks on all links to see whether other websites have
been updated. This portal website also features a green thing with an
axe in its head.

Ah, so no Twitter for you. Or Facebook, or any of the other social media stuff
that. They all have clauses they own whatever you post.

A green thing with an axe in its head? That alone is enough for you to have
bookmarked it. But surely the Chinese public is protected from immoral content
like that?

Or even social-ist.

Those social media do have anti-social tendencies. Like opting you in for stuff
they don't tell you about and making it hard to opt-out.

I live in a country where the government is deemed socialist and
ironically they block access to all "social" websites.

So it is great that we still have the usenets! However, these days
there are just too many usenet archiving websites that present it as
some sort of forum within many revenue generating ads and in the
process totally ignore my "X-No-Archive: yes".

I should decapitate them.

You should. Especially if they replace a :) with a smiley icon.

Meanwhile I'll set up the deckchair and enjoy the carnage from a distance whilst
sipping a peach flavored ice tea.

I bet Reinder is gonna claim that that's a socialist republic started by the
American invaders, back in 1969. Or that the moonlanding was faked because the
moon is so overpopulated by cheese eating people that there wasn't a space left
big enough to land a spacecraft on.

Have you ever read what they put in peach flavored ice tea? Battery acid is one

Yes, I just don't understand why websites such as Facebook and Youtube
don't put a permanent banner of the great poet, strategist, and genius
chairman Mao Zhedong at the top of the page. It's even okay with the
ministry of culture when the chairman is not depicted sitting in a
chair and at least that way the block will be lifted.

I never knew the Chinese government was that flexible. I don't think I can vote
here for the Chinese government on the ninth, can I? Anything is better than
those Harry Potter posters everywhere. You know, the ones saying "Big Potter is
Watching You".

There must have been a movie with Stallone or Schwarzenegger with a similar
subtitle on the poster.

There's an expression "to climb over cheese"? And what does that mean??? I mean

I thought you people had an extremely sever winter last winter
already? Also, I've heard that winters are expected to become more
severe in Europe because of global warming, so Pixel'd better start
the production of his merit badges. Or perhaps he can outsource them.

It's not always the firewall though, but also the extremely limited
bandwith available that connects the Chinese internet to the outside
world. So even the websites that are not blocked are often difficult
to reach.

The most severe winter in 12 years. Still wasn't as bad as the winter I got
frostbite or the one we had snow bunkers that lasted for weeks and survived a
full hour of snowball fights each school day. I'm not saying things were better,
back in the day. But they sure were colder.

Maybe Pixel can give "merit badge production"-merit badges to kids making the
merit badges in lieu of money.

In 12 years? I don't remember the winter of 1997/8 as being
exceptionally cold! But then again, my yardstick are winters of down
to -40 degrees that I have experienced in Canada or Chinese Siberia.
Every time I hear some Dutch person tell me it is cold in the
Netherlands I simply cackle insanely.

I talked to Pixel a few days ago on some messaging network. I
completely forgot what we talked about however.

No, no, it is for teh real. After all, only about one in ten of the
Chinese websites is linked to a website outside of China. And for
about every popular website in, well, the real world, there exists a
Chinese alternative. They're sometimes almost exact copies, since
Chinese people love making copies.

For instance, today some Chinese student wanted to show me her
Powerpoint presentation about some American author. The presentation
was an exact copy of some Chinese copy of Wikipedia, with even the
links to other Wikipedia articles still in place. The most surprising
thing was that she was actually proud of it, and that her Chinese
professor considers such presentations to be of good quality. This
same student also thought the USA is a country in Europe.

It had to do with the Elfstedentocht. So it must have been nice and frosty for a
couple of weeks. I don't remember too much snow though, unlike the past winter.
Still neither seemed too extreme to me either.

That explains the size of their population.

I've heard about those 1 on 1 website copies as well. Sometimes with coding
mistakes or easter eggs and such. There was one that basically ripped everything
off Youtube, right? And it didn't remove those clips kicked on account of
copyrights.

That's so wrong. Everyone knows America is a town in Limburg, Netherlands.

Because you've spent the second half of the nineties watching Cartoon Network? I
know I did. Cow and Chicken, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Dexter's Laboratory and
The Powerpuff Girls have warped my mind forever. Though Looney Tunes pre-warped
it of course.

My "swerver" didn't give an error. It used to give errors whenever you'd double

Or checkered pants. Golfing is very pixelated.

I kind of forgot why we are talking about winter while it is summer.

Hey, my memory is not failing! I still remember when this

Hmmm, the closest Youtube clone I can think of is Youku, but these
days it doesn't look like Youtube anymore. There are some good things
about these Chinese sites though. For example, since Chinese reply
with WTF when you say copyright, many full-length movies can be found
on Chinese video sites. I find this useful for when you like to see a
particular scene of some movie, but cannot be bothered to download the
torrent.

There is also an extremely popular website (Xunlei Kankan) which uses
bittorrent technology, but allows you to watch it only on an http
website so that the company can put on a shitload of ads there. This
also means you cannot use regular bittorrent clients and need to
install a browser plugin (works best with IE6, which has a market
share of 95% in China). In addition, almost all of these movies have
been encoded in the Real Media format, you know, from Real Player
which we all hated ten years ago and vowed never again to install on
our computers. Chinese use it because it is pretty much the only
cracked encoding program translated into Chinese. Anyhow, if you can
see through the ads (Chinese have no idea what an ad blocker is) it
works pretty much okay. Of course, that is if you use Windows with
IE6. For Linux users such as myself, it doesn't work.

> That's so wrong. Everyone knows America is a town in Limburg, Netherlands.

Nobody here knows the Netherlands, they all call it Holland! Actually,
even many people from Holland call the Netherlands Holland, and I also
know many people from the Netherlands, but not from Holland, who call
the Netherlands Holland.

No, actually everything gets burnt. Everything. Everything. But
sometimes it is some sort of holiday to remember the dead, and then
people go out and buy fake money to burn it, just in front of their
houses on the street.

We're Dutch. We'll turn any conversation towards the Elfstedentocht.

Yep, turns out some of that stuff is actually legally on Youtube.

I think I'd rather take a hot poker to the eyes than watch anything Real-related
again. Although you can play those links through VLC, right?

And then there are the gansta-rappers that replace the first l with a -.

Use the incinerator 2000. It's coin operated and does a great job on Japanese
centenarians. They've been going up in smoke like there's no tomorrow.
