I tried cats, but they speak a strange language. I don't know any man
from Scheveningen however. I haven't been there for centuries! Do they
still have this beach?

Why are you still using an OS that does not support UTF-8? Do you
really still use Windows 95? Or is it your newsreader that does not
support UTF-8?

I am using an old reader on an old machine that basically really just
here because it supports de drivers for my MP3-player. And it runs
Windows 98 you know!

Don't cats usually do a Jedi mind trick thing? Mostly just to get more food.

Yep, the beach is still there. They're refurbishing the pier again, I think.
They considered removing the beach after the Americans threatened to invade it
if ever an American would stand trial in the International Court of Justice in
The Hague.

Runs? Crawls more likely.

Ehr, how old is that MP3 player? They tend not to provide '98 drivers with new
devices. Mine does, but it's a three year old 1GB model that cost just 8 euros
last month. The expensive ones are XP or above.

Oh, the player runs on XP too. Just not on Vista, which we hav on the
real computer.

And actually, my Win98 boots up a hundred times as fast as the Vista
Machine, and since I only use the Win98 machine for downloading,
managing my mp3player and mail and usenet, it runs like a train.

Apparently mine doesn't either. Because I am teh lazy.

I really hate Vista.

98 was a way better OS, IMO. Even XP was better. Vista is like a dumb
people's OS, and nothing works on it unless you want to jump through
hurdles. Even then there's problems.

My supported the UTF-8, but I don't think it was because of me being all the
non-lazy.

I tested Vista out and had no real problem with it, just some driver installs
(same as in XP really). But since my XP was doing fine I saw no need to take the
jump. Since everything I've got and am getting runs on XP there's no point.

Not more than XP or 98 did. I don't get why people hate Vista. I haven't seen
Vista do anything that it shouldn't. At least not more than XP. Having said
that, I didn't see anything that made me wish I had Vista (or Seven). If it
ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hahaha, I am using some Windows Live Mail junk. That's super lazy.

My main beef is that Sony has no drivers for my video camera compatible with
Vista - but that's a Sony issue. I need to send them a strongly worded
letter. I did find some compatible stuff for my regular Sony camera though.
I still don't like Vista. =) Just a general ickiness about it that I can't
get past.
It's truly crap on a cracker. If I had KNOWN it was crap on a cracker, I
never would have let them put it on my new laptop when I ordered it last
year, and got XP instead. And yeah, my old desktop comp is staying with XP.
I'm not upgrading the OS on that.

I have read people upgrading XP systems to Vista did tend to run into trouble
since it was a more demanding OS.

I kinda miss Thunderbird. Maybe I will start using that again. I haven't
bothered with a new newsreader because I just come here every so often. =)
I haven't put many things on my laptop since I got it about a year ago -

My laptop came with Vista installed and I haven't had any issues with it
running, etc. I just don't like it! (And I really can't say why exactly -
it's lots of little, itty bitty things) =D However, now that you have told
me this, I won't try to upgrade my desktop, for sure!

Nowadays I use it for a bunch of RSS feeds, besides the e-mail and the odd

It makes more sense to upgrade to Seven. It's supposed to be a bit lighter. I
still wouldn't though. If your system works fine, leave it be. Besides you'd
have to check out the specs on your desktop first. And back things up, just in
case of remorse or total disaster.

Drivers for MP3 players? Aren't all of them recognized as some USB
drive on Windows? When I connect my 7 years old MP3 player it just
pops up as if I had connected a USB stick I can browse. Though, does
Windows 98 actually support USB?

XP or above does that, generally. 98 Does support USB, as does 95 version 2 (or
something like a SP2 for 95). But it was downright buggy on 95, as I remember.

There's also plenty of drivers for USB devices (like printers) that offer
'valuable extra options'. Drivers that are over 100mb and disable your printer
if you're not using the right ink-cartridge. I've even come across USB
flashdrives that auto install software as soon as you connect the darn thing.
Even stuff that wants to connect to the internet so you can register.

W H A T ! ? ! ? ! ? ! ? ! ! ? ? ! ? ! ? ! ? ? ?

Vista is the worst cunt of all operating systems! It is the scumm of
the computing world and smells worse than my shit at beer time.

1) Vista is absolutely fucking slow! No, not even fucking slow, it is
bat shit insane slow!!!!!! They made some pact with cunty slutty
hardware manufacturers that would justify the latter to engage in some
sort of hardware holocaust and come up with new and expensive hardware
that would support the purposedly bloatware-engineered Vista. I mean,
it is just an operating system, which shouldn't use more than 50MB of
RAM. Yet what are the system requirements for Vista? Yes!!! Something
like 1GB!! For running just an operating system!! It is nothing more
than insanityyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2) It is also incredibly insecure to use Windows Vista!!! There are
thousands of those so called viruses out there that can destroy your
system!!!!! Still Microsoft refuses to make a more secure operating
system, those fucking fucktards!!!!! I bet they just get their toes
sucked by the big anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware and other such
shit industry. On a website such as download.com where you can
download programs to run on your computer the top 5 consists entirely
of programs to help you overcome the insecurities of Windows Vista.
How insane is that? It is insanityyyyyyyyyyyY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3) Also, many of the programs I like to use are not available for
Microsoft Windows Vista. Now, I know Microsoft is not responsible for
that, but it still baffles the mind why I would have to use software
emulation just to be able to use a program that I like rather than
some software you have to download from some sketchy website. Also,
many times they want you pay for these programs!!! Holy fucking shit
cheese goats and cookies!!!! Insanityyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!

4) In addition, Vista is extremely difficult to maintain. Some of the
programs are updated through Windows Vista, some others through their
own update programs that run in the background all the time, and for
some programs you will have to visit said sketchy websites from time
to time. All of this takes up an awful lot of time on Windows Vista.
Only mentally ill people would spend several minutes every week to
maintain their system!!!! Insanityyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!

5) It's horribly expensive!!!

SCUMM was pretty darn good. It gave us Monkey Island, didn't it?

So I don't understand why people hate Vista. It might be because I have a hard
time understanding people that shout Insanityyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!! all the time
while trying to make 5 serious points.

I also don't understand why people would buy Vista if they have a computer
running fine on XP. Especially if it's a computer that is 4 years old or more.

I don't. There's very little that I'd call essential. Besides, it's spread out
over several drives and computers, basically backing up "by accident" because of
copies on multiple drives.

Oh, that sounds quite awesome. I must get some of that. Another
USB-related thing that I hate is whenever I go somewhere with a
USB-stick to print something, some program announcing it is going to
index the entire contents of my USB-stick the moment I pop it in
appears. I believe it is an Adobe product. Why that computer would
need to index my entire porn backup when I just want to print
document.pdf is what I don't get, however.

Another reason I hate Vista is that people who have problems with it
come to me for help. Though these days I often just say I don't know
enough about Windows to be able to help them. And actually, it is kind
of true. Today I had a hard time looking for the hosts file on an XP
machine. It was located in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\ instead of
just in /etc/.

The taskbar is black in Vista. Some people like black better than
blue.

I think Windows does something similar. It checks all the content then offers to
autoplay it. Depending on the type of content it would offer up Mediaplayer,
Imageviewer or whatever the case may be. Still not as annoying as what you're
talking about. Third party snoopware.

Okay, now that's a reason I can get behind!!!

You know what's great? People asking you if you can find a file the computer has
lost. If you ask them what the name of the file is, where they think they saved
it or even with what program it was made with, they all draw a blank. "It had
tigers in it", words or pictures? Turns out it's words in a picture. How to find
it? Ask when they made it. After a search it turns out it's something like
Tiger.doc in "my documents"... Then they look at you as if you're a magician.

Isn't it rather easy to change the color? Or just select another theme. I use XP
with the classic 98 skin and color scheme. I'd imagine something similar is
still doable in Vista or Seven.
