LucasArts is on DRUGS!!

So I decided to play this game called Monkey Island Special Edition. I have a very fast laptop, a 2003 model with a Pentium Celeron 2600MHz processor, 512MB RAM and an Intel integrated graphics card that uses 64MB of the aforementioned RAM. It couldn't quite run the new Tales of Monkey Island, but surely it must be able to run a simple 2D game! Now, ever since I said goodbye to Microsoft Windows, I have been used to installing games or other programs like this: 1. Go to Software in the System Menu 2. Search and select the program you want to install 3. Click on OK Not so with Windows, which I have on this laptop just for playing games (which I hardly ever do though). When I install the game it seems to take forever for some reason, but when it is finally done, I start the game. A window pops up that shows a completely black background with a white rectangle in the middle. That's all. This is not a game, or is it? When I go to Windows Task Manager I see that a process called MISE.exe is running and is eating up 65% of my CPU. The size of the process however, is steady. Why on earth did LucasArts program something they call a game that shows a white rectangle on a black background that uses 65% of my CPU? So then I go around the internets looking for help and it appears that apparently I have to install something called .NETfx 3.5, of which an installer comes included with the game. I found out that it's a Microsoft program designed to make your computer slow. Just like Java, but then worse. Now why would I want to do that? I just want to play a game, not install some Microsoft bloatware. But, since I don't care much about the Windows system anyway, I give it a try. During the installating, after Microsoft checks my computer for whatever, I get a message that it would be a 40MB download. About ten seconds later I get a message that I can disconnect from the internet! My connection is really not that fast and besides, why would I want to disconnect from the internet when I still need it for other things. So, I don't disconnect and let the installation of this .NET stuff continue, which for some obscure reason takes more than half an hour. Then I have to restart my computer for reasons that are beyond me and when after that I want to play Monkey Island, all I get is once more a windows with a white rectangle on a black background. I had already installed the most recent version of DirectX when I tried the Tales of Monkey Island, but just to be sure I also try the version that comes with Monkey Island Special Edition. To no avail either. Then I install the latest drivers for my videocard. They're from 2006, so I figure I already have those drivers, but I give a try anyway. Still a white on black rectangle. This is annoying. A few hours ago I just wanted to play a computer game, but now I am busy installing all kinds of programs that Windows apparently needs to run some game made by LucasArts. I don't want to do all this, so I give up. When I inspect my system after that, I notice a program called mscorsvw.exe running at 100% CPU. Now apparently it is part of the .NET stuff. I never asked for this though. My firewall also tells me that the Suite Integration Toolkit wants to connect to a Microsoft server. Great, right what I need. Yet another program, called PerformanceCounterInstaller.exe also wants to connect to a Microsoft server, but before I can block it I get a windows popping up that tells me "PerformanceCounterInstaller.exe" has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Another thing I notice is that I now have something called Windows Cardspace in my Configuration Panel. I have no idea what it is, but I am sure I don't want it either. I just wanted to play a game. Since the game doesn't seem to run anyway and since I gave up in the previous paragraph, I decide to delete this Microsoft .NET software. I go to Software in Configuration Panel, select the .NET stuff and click Remove. All I get is a pop-up window with the text "Fatal Error". Holy fucking reversely ruminated fucking lubricated cunt shit!!! Now this game is also available on Microsoft's Xbox system. I suspect that when the people at LucasArts aren't on drugs, the terminal section of their alimentary sewers are being stuffed with wooden Microsoft nickels, for which in return they program a simple 2D game that is a hell to install on Windows systems, and as such lure people into buying an Xbox. And did I mention they're on drugs? If you still don't believe me, have a look at this: http://a.imagehost.org/view/0390/guybrush-on-crack -- ervaqre is wicked sick

Your laptop is old. Get a > new one. NEVAARRRRR!!! That's exactly what Microsoft wants so that they can make more money. It's ridiculous that I need a newer computer for a simple 2D game. There are many games that look a whole lot better, which I can play just fine. And what's up with LucasArts wanting you to install a lot of Microsoft spyware as I described in my previous post? I really don't think I should need Windows Cardspace or Performance Counter Installer reporting to Microsoft servers to be able to play Monkey Island. The game's not clean. It's infected. It's all part of a conspiracy I refuse to feed! Just look at the screenshot I posted. Guybrush looks like he's on drugs and I bet the only way to actually make him look normal is by getting on the same drugs LucasArts was on when they made this special edition. So not only did LucasArts become Microsoft's little bitch, they'll probably in debts with their drug dealers as well. -- ervaqre is wicked sick

Though full-screen Flash video actually works fine, though it must be said I have an incredibly fast computer, with a 2600 MHz Intel Pentium Celeron processor and 512MB RAM.
