Well without citations I have no way of knowing whether Danny did in

Knocking is what one may do with a hammer to build something. Possibly a
barn. Since it's rather usual to raise a building from the ground in an
upwards fashion and using hammers the term knocking up could originate.

An alternative explanation is that the writer intended the term "cobbled
up" - meaning to put together roughly or clumisly - but used the word
knocked as a result of a lack of education. Then again he may have used
knocked up in reference to the huge amount of adult sites on the
internet since they often depict actions ending in knocking up.

The term knocked up may be related to an upper part of the female
anatomy, the activity of waking still sleeping factory workers by
knocking on their door or a physical activity related to the oldest
profession.
