I couldn't believe what I was reading. The very reliable folks I've worked closely with since 1996 at PC Gamer Magazine met with the developers of our beloved Duke. Although there was somewhat of a gag order about what they could say, they did see the characters in final form, the objects, creatures and weapons and some maps. The game will not be revealed at this year's E3 convention, but will most likely debut in 2006, the 10th anniversary of Duke3D. I klnow we are all skeptics, but, Gamer writes in part: "...we were treated to an unprecedented presentation of Duke Nukem Forever - the real deal - courtesy of George Broussard. Though it's still too early and rough for 3D Realms to unveil the game in these pages, we are able (and delighted!) to report with our own eyes tha DNF is up and running in very fine form indeed" They go on to say that everything was thrown out in late 2002, and 3D started over, with their own rendering technology. Broussard kept a "poker face" when pressed to committ to a release date, or admitting that he is suckering everyone.. PC Gamer, however, said: "But our 20 minute walkthrough of Duke Nukem Forever convinced us that 3D Realms is going to lay a full house on the table in 2006..." So, what do you think? KC, Nutwrench, Duke Meisters everywhere, is there really a light at the end of this nearly 10 year tunnel?

They wasted 6 years only to "throw everything out" because they didn't like it. Sigh Somebody ought to tell the geniuses at 3DR that no game ever will be perfect. As soon as it's released, someone will want to mod it. Some companies will want to license the engine for their purposes. Some other companies will promise a totally better game than (blank) but with similar themes. > > "But our 20 minute walkthrough of Duke Nukem Forever convinced us that 3D > Realms is going to lay a full house on the table in 2006..." Until someone comes up with a better gaming engine, then it's back to Square One. > > So, what do you think? KC, Nutwrench, Duke Meisters everywhere, is there > really a light at the end of this nearly 10 year tunnel? When all the Duke Forever websites, Gamespy, *and* CNN are talking about it then I will believe. Promises are cheap. -- He that knows nothing will believe anything. --Thomas Fuller (d.1661)

Sigh It wouldn't be the first time they've thrown everything out - weren't they ping-ponning back and forth between the Unreal and Quake engines? >> So, what do you think? Promises are cheap. It's been mentioned in the Front page on Apr 21 on Planetduke.com - however, it mentions that it's just like other previous announcements. Most likely, this is just another hype spike that appears.

I am only encouraged, because its from PC Gamer Magazine (print). There is a big yellow star sticker on the cover: "DUKE NUKEM FOREVER We've seen it ! Read our report!" The edition is dedicated to "PREY" "The legendary creators of Duke Nukem unveil their Doom 3 powered shooter!" It was while visiting 3D to review PREY, Gamer was given a glimpse of DNF, so this wasn't something that was sent to them, or a rumor. This was a tour at 3D Realms by the developers. Now, there is nothing that says it WILL be released, even in 2006. Anyone reading this post is probably a Duke freak, otherwise, why hang around a forum dedicated to a 10 yr old game! We've been left at the altar too many times to not be pessimistic. Non the less, given its PC Gamer, I am somewhat encouraged. In the meantime, its back to FarCry for me.
