>Lets assume that EA was right on money with their 5 copies per 1 store >bought. EA will also assume that the 5 people who pirates the game would >have bought it if they couldnt have copied it. This is what I have a >problem with. How can EA, or any software company for that matter know >that these people would have bought their games? I dont think people can >afford to buy what they have pirated. Then they shouldn't have bought it. Just because I can't affored a BMW doesn't give me the right to steal one. Yes, it's the same thing as software. Either way, you are paying people for their labor and time. Statistics are not an exact science, and as such, good statistics give a lot of room in the neative. If they say for every game 5 are pirated, it's probably more like for every game, 15 are pirated. 1:5 is pretty generous. >Back to software piracy. If a kid pirates a game, its not fair to say he >has created profit losses for the company. Why not? To legally have the game, he has to pay for it. If he can't afford it, he should get a job like everyone else. 1, who said he would have >bought the game to begin with? I could care less if he bought the game or not, but that still doesn't give him the right to STEAL it. And 2, its not like the company >manufactured to game, and this kid went into the store and stole a copy. Indeed, it is. The CD and pakaging costs about $3 total, the other $46 is to pay the programmers, R&D, distributor, cost of production, lawyers, and so on. What you are paying for when you buy a program is the program, so when you pirate a copy, it is indeed THE EXACT SAME THING as going in a store and stealing it. >Sorry, I dont think so. How old are you? 13? Your logistical skills need a lot of work. rabBit Unsolicited Commercial E-Mail sent to this address will result in either a mailbomb campaign or a virial attack, depending upon the nature of the offending E-mail and my mood.
