Besides, the only company in trouble is Apple, > and no one is (or wants to be) stealing there shit. Another example. Lets say that you won a prize, say a car. There is no way that you would have bought the car but it was given to you as a prize. Someone comes to your house in the middle of the night and steals it. With your analisys, you havn't lost anything so it is perfectly okay that the person is using the car without paying you for it. I guess with this line of thinking, this wouldn't be stealing. After all, you didn't pay anything for the car in the first place, and the person taking it wouldn't have bought it from you. Just because Mr. Lunchmeat wouldn't have bought Mr. Gate's program it in the first place doesn't make it right to take it. Hypothetical loss stats are very real, especially when it comes to foreign countries bootlegging software and selling it in the black market. Even if 10% of the bootlegged copies sent to foreign countries would have been bought legally if not available illegally, that would be millions of dollars for software development. If you ever wonder why it cost you $50 for the be-all end-all new game on the market, part of that price is covering the cost of illegal copies. If someone wants MDK or Diablo bad enough, they will find the way to come up with the cash to pay for it if there were no illegal copies to be had.
