Please help set up PCI slot modem

Please can anyone advise, I have played duke via isa modem with no trouble,
however after upgrading to pci modem duke just wont talk to modem, I have
tried irq,port address,init string settings etc. Two friends of mine have
same problem as well.
I spoke with 3d realms  who cant help, also Diamond , they cant help either.
Presumably dos4wg has trouble using high irq settings, but surely someone
very smart out there can get round this !
