If you are like me -- I have been unable to get Duke3d to run
reliably on my Win98 computer with a SBLive! value sound card. I have
seen any number of posts where Duke crashes especially where sound
reverberations cause a problem. Nothing made sense to me, especially
'techno' explanations.

WELL HERE'S WHAT WORKS FOR ME!! (Hope it's simple enough to
understand.)

I downloaded the complete LiveWare 3.0 update from: www.sblive.com
all four components are about 57meg in size.

I use the following command within my regular 'Duke3D' shortcut icon:
"C:\command.com /c C:\games\duke3d\duke3d.exe"

and the following command within my regular 'Setup' shortcut icon:
"C:\command.com /c C:\games\duke3d\setup.exe"

My Duke3d folder/directory is under 'games' on MY hard drive.
'Duke3D' runs the regular Atomic Edition and I use the 'Setup'
shortcut to load user maps. Pay CLOSE attention the precise typing
and spacing of the commands. Your directory locations may vary.

SO -- Before I could not run all user maps on my 'new' machine
loaded as follows:
Pentium III 450mHz with 128meg RAM, Win98, and SBLive! value sound
card.

Using the 'commands' above alone within my icons did not work with the
basic sound card on the machine (from Dell). Installing the LiveWare
3.0 update by itself did not work. Using BOTH -- TOGETHER is like
magic. Now the map(s) that gave me fits (crashes) before run fine.
Hope this helps.

THANKS to Dick Gray and Steve Long.

Richard.
