The red key is on top of a small column in the west wing of the big main 
room - the switch to lower the column is on the east side of a large 
column in the far south of the big main room (the switch on the west 
side raises it-so don't push it) - the red key opens a door to a large 
chamber on the northeast corner of the map.

Okay, now I have to ask: how do I get to that switch?  All the
switches in that big room are guarded by columns.  I mean, it's not
that big of a deal: I can cheat-code my way passed, but still I'd like
to be able to do it properly.

on the north side of the west wing is a group of columns with a single 
black column in the middle-that black column is a switch that lowers the 
middle column temporarily of the group on the south side-you must run 
quickly to the south side before the column rises again to get to the 
switch in the big column which lowers the columns on the north set to 
get to the switch on the big column of the north set-this switch lowers 
the columns on the group on the west side to get to the small platform 
in the center which will teleport you to the center of the group on the 
south end of the big main room with the switch on the east side of the 
big center column which will lower the columns to get out as well as the 
column with the red key.
