I recently trotted down to Best Buy to get a sound card, and I picked up both a Sound Blaster Pro and a MediaMagic ISP-16. The media magic claims to be SBPRO compatible, plus it adds 44 kHz stereo 16-bit recording and playback, windows sound system emulation, cdrom support for sony, panasonic, and mitsumi CDs, separate line-in line-out mic-in speaker out with 8 watt amplifier and (best of all) it was only $75. Well all the features work beautifully, especially the CD quality recording and playback. _HOWEVER_, when I play games that support SBPRO stereo sound (like doom), the sound comes out in mono. So the question is: Do most SB (or SBPRO) compatible sound cards get the stereo sound effects? I.e., should I be getting stereo with this card, or do I need a 'real' SBPRO. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, -- William Magro NeXTMail welcome wma...@uiuc.edu

Soundblaster is not a stereo card. SB Pro, however, IS stereo. In Doom, using headphones, you can sometimes localize monsters, and estimate how many are behind a door, for example. Andy
