trouble with EPISODE #2, MAP #4 and a bug

Hi y'all! I've come across 2 problems with DOOM. One is a bug
or config problem or some sort and I don't know about the other. I'm
using the registered version 1.1 of DOOM.

(i) The last 2 save slots are screwy. If I select those while saving,
it saves the game but moves that save game to slot#1 - overwriting
what was previously there and leaving the slot I selected as
saying -no save- or whatever it says for default. It's not a
crucial bug and slots #1-#4 seem to operate just fine. Has anyone
   come across this problem before?

(ii) I don't know if this is *supposed* to be in the game or not. In
Episode #2, Map #4 there is an area along the south border of
the map that has one of those huge blocks that move up and down
(crushers). The hallway twists beyond into a chamber with a thin
twisty path over some toxic slime. I've seen parts of this chamber
from below since there are 2 ways to get to the slime level from
the slime river outside. But you can't get up to the walkway from
there. My proablem is this. It seem that the only way to get to
that walkway is to go thru the crushers, but the crusher there
(at least the 1st one - I can't see beyond to tell if there are
even any others, much less what they are doing) only oscillates
between ground level and 1 foot above ground level offering me
no possibility of proceeding further. The exit to this level, which
I've found and is totally somewhere else, requires (it seems) some
switch to be triggered to raise a platform/walkway to reach it since
it is suspended over another pool of toxic slime. I'm only guessing
that the switch is in the area mentioned abovem but I could be wrong.
There's also another area I haven't been able to reach. That's the
hidden area north of the circular toxic waste pool with the island
in the middle. I've had to use the idclev option to warp to the next
map since I can't seem to finish this legitimately. If not for the
block that never rises more than a foot above the ground, I would
think that I've missed something (and probably have anyway... :-).
So, is it a bug or d0 I just need to go back and look around some
   more?

Brett,
I have had the same problem with saving games. It was really a pain because
the game save it overwrote I had all sorts of goodies and health. Did you report this
bug and if you did will it be in the patch due out in mid January. As far as I know
the January patch will contain a patch to the IPX broadcast problems.
