Verdict On 387/40?

I remember reading that with an AMD-40 you had to unplug your
math coprocessor - hope it's not true still.

And was the consensus that a math coprocessor enhanced
performance at all, had no effect, or screwed things up?

I may install one (for CAD stuff) but I'm still curious.

I'm running a 386/387 40, with few problems (.99 beta still!)

only problem is unexpected interrupt 2 on startup 1/10 times, it has
NEVER locked up on me while running...

(I got, CD-ROM, Tape backup, SB clone, Scanner, etc. etc. nothing seems
to stop DOOM :)

I have an AMD386-40 with 387-40 and I have had no problems. It doesn't
really seem to affect speed at all though.

By this I assume you did try it both ways.

May I ask, what screen size and resolution are you using? I am at two
clicks above the smallest with high-res (I don't even consider low-res an
option) and get reasonable performance - not glass-smooth but acceptable.

The reason I ask is, someone awhile back said they were getting smooth
movement at two clicks below full-screen on a 386/387-40. If that's
really the case I must have something configured incorrectly.

Ahh, I've got CPU envy.

Thanks,

I use it at full screen, but on low detail. There isn't really that much
difference in the details, so I don't mind. At full screen and low detail
it moves very smooth.

My 486 at work on the other hand..... oooh, talk about CPU envy
