Just a couple of things. I'm using OS/2 2.1 on a 486/33. I have a Trident video card, and a SoundBlaster Pro card on IRQ10. I also have a Gravis joystick. I start the game up, it starts playing music, shows the introduction screen (the guy with the gun), then everything locks up. The music stops, and no keys I press do anything. I have to press "CTRL-ESC" to get back to the OS/2 desktop, then close the DOS session. Wolfenstein 3D worked fine on my machine. I admit, I haven't fooled around with the DOS settings to ensure they are the same as Wolfenstein, I'll try that tonight. My question: Does anyone out there use Doom under OS/2, and if so are there any special DOS box settings you had to set? -- - Kevin Lowey (Kevin...@USask.CA, Client Services Educational Services Team) Last week I forgot how to ride a bicycle. - Steven Wright

There's a big fat list of settings in the README app (also in the FAQ when I last read it) that worked for me. I didn't sit and think about which ones were vital and which ones weren't, I just blindly copied them in. Try that out and it should work fine.. (i.e. changing the settings in a copy of the program template under "DOS settings") -Paul Hagstrom hags...@mit.edu

IRQ10 is *not* a good idea for games.

This will *eventually* get in to the OS/2 games FAQ (Gary?), but you
absosmurfly CANNOT play DOOM in an OS/2 VDM with a joystick. Edit the
config file to use a mouse instead and all should load fine.
Hmm, hate to contradict myself, but I think I recall a few reports about
some joysticks working... Welp, removing the joystick fixed it for me.

Don't bother - the problem is your joystick, guaranteed. You may have
*other* problems after you remove the joystick, but the VDM dying right
after the intro bass riff is most assuredly due to the joystick.

Look at the README, don't use a joystick, and be sure you have the newest
patch to v1.1 and all should be fine. :>

It's working now. The solution was to disable Joystick support. Once I did that, the OS/2 settings in the README documentation worked. Actually, I saw that, but ran the program anyway. It even says in the setup program that DOOM doesn't support an IRQ above 9. HOWEVER, I told it to use Interrupt 5 (thinking I'd change my card when I shut down). The game then automatically started from the Setup program, and it worked! All the digitized sounds worked fine, even though I was using the "unsupported" interrupt 10. The other problem I had was with the joystick. I just disabled it and everything is fine.
