NetDOOM: Aargh... doesn't work STILL!

I posted a while ago about what was needed to do to run DOOM over an ethernet.
I was finally able to try it, and no matter what I tried, it didn't work!
With my ultra-cheap ne2000 clone cards and thin ethernet (w/terminators) I
hooked up 2 machines just as a "simple" test. I made a net.cfg file that looks
like:
link driver ne2000
int 9
port 240
frame Ethernet_II
node address 080000005433
then I loaded the files:
lsl.com
ne2000.com
ipxodi.com
setup.exe
what would happen is that one player, the one on that machine, would be found,
but the other would not. If I set up one machine for 3 players and the other
for 2, then the one with 2 players would "detect" both players and try to start,
but would just show a black screen. The other would do nothing. I also tried
another method that others have suggested:
lsl.com
ne2000.com
pdether.com
ipxodi.com
setup.exe
but it would lock up after pdether. I tried the following entry in the net.cfg
file for pdether:
link driver PDEther
INT 0x60
FRAME Ethernet_II
PROTOCOL IPX 8137 Ethernet_II
but that locked up also. I'm not sure where I got pdether from, but it was v1.1
and said that it was "built" on some date. Does this mean that I need to build
it myself?
If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, I would really appreciate it. I
have tried almost everything; scoured countless ftp sites and documentation for
files, tried MANY different setups, and nothing worked. I was able to actually
talk several others on my floor into making the investment for network hardware
for DOOM, and if I can't get this to work, I'll just end up looking like an
idiot (that would really suck in this case because I am a CS major!! (argh!)).
Anyone... if you have been able to get DOOM to work on a network, please tell
me what is going wrong. I don't have the resources to build an ipx.com file,
since I don't have Netware or an assembler (that's what you need, right?), so
that wouldn't work. We have a 486DX33 and a 486DX50 with ne2000 clone cards
(16 bit 10Base2).
Thanks in advance!

Where to get IPX92.ZIP (Was: Re: NetDOOM: Aargh... doesn't work STILL!)

Sorry for posting, but could you be more specific? Like a full
ftp site name & directory? I poked around garbo.wasa.fi, but
couldn't find IPX92.ZIP.
I only recently noticed this newsgroup, so perhaps I missed discussion
about IPX drivers, but what was the original source for IPX92.ZIP?
I do have the latest FAQ and it doesn't go into this much detail.
BTW I got lsl, ipxodi & my card's ODI driver & it doesn't work...
That's why I got the Clarkson NE2000 driver (ftp.clarkson.edu, in
/pub/packet/drivers.zip, I think) & am looking for IPX92.ZIP
