Installing on Stacked Drives

I recently acquired DOOM1_1.zip from ftp.uwp.edu ...
I ran into a problem when trying to install it on my stacked drive.
I pkunziped the file in a temporary directory, and then tried the install
command (or was it setup... I don't remember), anyway, I tried to install
the game, but it would give me a "WRITTING ERROR" halfway through the
process.
Even weirder was that after that, STACKER was activated as if I wanted to
stack a new drive.
Like I said... weird!
After trying this for an unremembered and unwanted to be rembered amount
of times, I decided to try something different:
I only had about 1.5 meg of uncompressed space on my D drive, so I
reconfigured my stacker drive so that I had at least 10 megs of free space
on D.
I then tried to install DOOM again, and when asked which drive to install
to, I chose D, and VOILA!
It installed like a charm!
I was so happy that I had'nt wasted X number of hours douwnloading a program
that I thought would never work on my pc...
After whetting my appetite with this marvel of a game, I decided to try
something else:
I went on my C drive and made a doom directory, I then copied all DOOM files
from D: to C:
Lo and Behold! It WORKED!
The game played beautifully.
I suggest to anyone who encounters this problem to try the same method and
see if it works.
I would like to hear from people who have had the same problem and try my
method...
I had not seen any posting about STACKER installation, I hope this helps...

Thank you for your time and patience.

I would bet you have ..\STACKER in your path! You ran
Stacker's INSTALL instead of DOOM's install, probably!

I installad Doom 1.1 registered version to a stacked drive with NO problems
whatsoever. I was using Dos 5.0 and Stacker 2.0, if it helps, on a 486sx25
with 21 Megs free.

ok. i m sorry i flamed the guy for having a valid subject line relating
both to his message and to the quoted message. i apologized to him to
personally, but i already got one flame here and there are probably more to
come. i accidentally used the wrong example, but my point is still valid.
many messages have subject lines which relate in no way to what they are
discussing. i just politely ask that everyone keep this in mind.
