Alright, I've been using .au files to throw into doom with dmaud, but I have no way to listen to them outside of it. (I think) My question is this: What the hell is a .au file and how can I listen to/edit it ...are there any shareware utils I can get to do this? Thanks...

As I understand it, .au files are 8 bit audio files that are designed to work in a UNIX environment. Look for an AU->.WAV utility in the sound utility DIR of yer favorite FTP site.

Thanks... look for goldwave for windoze,.. it's shareware, and I think you can probably find it on ftp.cica.indiana.edu. The filename is gldwav10.zip. You can also use PLANY.EXE to play almost all sound file formats. You can get a copy of this program at your local Simtel/Garbo FTP site in the sound directory, with the filename PLANY12.ZIP.. I think I got if from either wuarchieve.wustl.edu or ftp.uwp.edu.
You'll have to hunt around a little bit, but its usually in something
like \pub\msdos\games\id\home-brew or something to that effect...

PLANY can be used to play .au files... as a matter of fact, DMAUD _is_ PLANY, with some changes to the I/O. To convert .au files to something else, try SOX (yes, some of the code from SOX became PLANY...) wuarchive.wustl.edu:/mirrors/msdos/sounds/plany12.zip ...hmm, maybe you should try oak.oakland.edu instead... ftp.cwi.nl:/pub/audio/sox10dos.zip Version 1.0 of DMAUD (soon...) will output in .wav format, and allow sounds of unlimited length, so I guess you could use DMAUD to convert .au -> .wav Bill Neisius bi...@solaria.hac.com

I'm not sure what rev it's up to, but it can convert almost any sound file (including *.au) to almost any type of sound file (*.wav, *.mod, *.vox, etc) Enjoy -- <<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>><<|>> The Tree ----:*] || Microsoft Windows NT, "the RAPID Test Group || greatest kludge of an OS since KLA Instruments Corp.
