Hi Ho!! I see that my first message got screwed up. Oh well. I have a ATI F/X sound card that is soundblaster compatable but DOOM refuses to allow me to use the digital sound effects. It loads up until sound_init and then locks up. Anyone got a solution ??

I have had the same problem as you, but it seemed to work after playing with it for a while (I don't know if the buffer thing works or not)

These two work for me. --

I had the same problem, but none of the solutions mentioned worked. Since many of the programs I have showed this problem I called ATI. After describing the problems they suggested I upgrade the software that came with the card and also try their newer BIOS chip. I then picked this up from them (at no charge! :-) ) and installed it. The chip seems to improved my sound card performance... i.e. the card now plays full DOOM sound (I don't think it plays the stereo sound though) and Windows sound support. There are still a number of problems, but I am getting closer to a solution. Anyways, the moral of the story is call ATI and describe the problem. They will mail you the necessary software/hardware to aid you in solving your problem. Hope this helps. Kam

I had the exact same problem (using both an original SB and a Logitech SoundMan 16). Roger -- Roger A. The old version that didn't work was something like 1.01. You can use the sinfo.exe program to determine which ROM you have. I suspect that the ATI BBS in Toronto (you know, your town) should have the updated ROM file (sorry, I don't have the number handy). And by the way, the sounds are fannnnntastic.
