OK - here's the story so far: Installed the game on my winXP system and didn't
know that the fan on the video card was bad. The screen went white as soon as
the game was loaded - shortly afterward the power supply went! bummer... didn't
have time to fool with repairs so I went back to my win98se system and continued
with doom1 & doom2 using jdoom. Found the patch to allow doom3 on win98se,
installed it on '98 and patched the exe and wadda ya know, it runs and I finally
got my doom3 fix. It's fairly smooth at 800X600, medium graphics for single
player game - probably won't be good enough for online play with my system, but
I didn't plan on doing that anyway.

Hey - nothing to brag about, but it's playable. I was using my winXP system as a
work computer but I am retired now and was planning to upgrade anyway. I'll
continue to use my win98 machine for gaming.
