If drivers do not help you: to upgrade or downgrade then I guess it is the known ATIs Fast Writing setting what is enable by default in theirs driver and disable in Omega drivers, and why Omega drivers works and ATI's own not. So, Fast Writing sounds like you get huge speed or this is important setting and _need_ to be enable. But in seriously it is a relic in dinosaurus dynasty when ppl had only AGP X1 speed. By 3DMarkxx benchmark you can get 2 - 4 marks better number when Fast Write is enable but in ATIs case it is better to disable. This blank screen what you get is like "you lost video signal". Right? Or in other way you got delay, black screen, back to Desktop and then some pop-up window tell that ATI's genius corretion stealth or something is protecting you and after pressing this you can get back to your game. I do not remember its name. You can let it be enable. It is better evil than crass directly to Desktop. Where to find then this Fast Write? Some BIOS had this setting but now I am talking ATI display menus. I have know 6800 GT and cannot help the right place. But I have had 9600 Pro (Club 3D shit) and I remember very good this ATI bug. I waste 3 month to correct it. I played and cryed why any game didn't work. After this Fast Write to disable games worked fine - in 9600 Pro poor speed of course.
