Native Americans in the southwest used a swastika as a religious symbol long
before the Nazis (I don't recall if it is clockwise or counter-clockwise).
An old theatre here in Albuquerque has Native American symbols etched in
the ceiling beams which includes the occasional "swastika". It's a
real eye-opener to someone who doesn't understand it.
