Most textures on various 'insignificant' objects are average at best, but eventually you don't care much about these, as everything else start to happen and shadows and coloured lighting start to blow you away. I'm running on a plain radeon9800Pro and I see wonders with the lighting. One of the biggest flaw of this game is the original gamma settings. I happen to have an EXCELLENT monitor with Diamondron tube, even with that I had to set gamma to 1.4 ... But that made a dramatic change on my later game impressions. Even on a good monitor; Try a gamma of at least 1.2.. I recommend r_gamma "1.4" If you happen to have a Triniton tube, or an excellent Iiama monitor, then just make sure the gamma is high enough. Some are stuck with 'VALUE' monotors and will have trouble getting enough brilliance to the Doom3 screen.. There is another setting to boost even further.. I think the values are 1,2,3,4... ?.. But too much will wash< away the colors.. Use only if Gamma is not enough. I don't need this one, but people stuck with bargain monitors might need to. r_lightscale I too have lots of experience in 3D gaming; This game is not at its best when you just begin;and until you fix the gamma properly.. If you are honest, you will try again. Regards.
