What game were you playing? By changing the maxplayers variable you can
go up to 32 players. As far as weapons we have at least the following in
the multiplayer maps i've walked through:

Fists
Pistol
Shotgun
Machinegun
Chaingun
Plasmagun
Grenades
Rocket launcher

And other games are better in this respect? Although some include
versions for different languages if you use them you dont get the full
voice snippets etc.

Doom3, for the most part, was intended to be a singleplayer game. Quake4
which will use the Doom3 engine is expected to provide the multiplayer
experience. That said, since a broadband connection is required for
doom3 multiplayer a 100mb download for a mod isn't that big a deal. Also
consider that in reality if it comes in at 100mb then the ctf client
more than likely includes the maps with it.

Atm applying your logic you can't *really* be good at doom3 multiplyaer
because it's new and you do not know the weapons and health places etc.
This is true of any new multiplayer game/mod, you get used to it.

Assuming ID has continued to build on the punkbuster style cheat
prevention released in later pathes for Quake3 the problem of
hacks/cheats should be minimised considerably.

Unreal Tournament 2004 is great, however the single player campaign is
essentially a botmatch as far as I know. Comparing the engines is valid
but comparing the actual games is an apples to oranges comparison.

Halflife 2 is a game I also look forward to with great interest, however
given that these are two of the biggest games to be released this year I
feel it's more than worth it to own both.
