oh, my monitor is an Envision EN9110 (DVI) 19", and in 1024x768 response
in all games is excellent. In 1280x1024 (native res) some games are
favorable, some are not. haven't tried this in Doom3 yet :) Using the
DVI on this monitor made a very positive difference in this.
Doom 3 looks really amazing.

Ha! And folks were so concerned that Doom3 wouldn't run and look well
even on a system like yours :) Not using FRAPS myself at this time. I
did run the 'timedemo demo1' a number of times, playing with a few
settings, adopted Inglos autoexec.cfg ideas (makes it easier if ya got
the ones you change a lot in one lump in a smaller file), had to make
some changes to those. I've kept a high image quality, the game is very
smooth, and running 7 timedemos after settling on the configs I'm using
now, I'm getting 57.2 fps thru the last 5 runs. I've also seen now that
many of the things that make a difference don't show up in the in game
menus. Looks like we'll also be comparing autoexec.cfg (we create this
one) and the DoomConfig.cfg (Doom creates and edits this one). If there
are cvars that need to be adjusted and kept then looks like it might be
best to put them in the autoexec.

In-game menu: High Quality 1024x768
HQ Special Effects-yes
Enable Shadows-no
Enable Specular-yes
Enable Bump maps-yes
Vertical Synch-no
Antialiasing-2x

my autoexec.cfg:
seta com_allowConsole "1"
seta com_showFPS "0"
seta com_videoRam "128"
seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "512"
seta image_cacheMinK "2048"
seta image_useCompression "1"
seta image_lodbias "0"
seta image_anisotropy "0"
seta r_lightscale "2.1"
seta r_multiSamples "2"
seta r_swapinterval "1"
seta r_mode "5"

I'm not sure at all what r_lightscale is doing. The image_nnnn vars all
make a difference either in quality or speed, or both. I'm sure there
are cvars in the DoomConfig.cfg that also make a difference.
In the end, on my system, Doom3 is extremely playable and smooth plus
looks pretty amazing.
I'd guess that I can spend more time tweaking and testing and get my
timedemo over 60 fps. But I'm wanting to PLAY this thing now! :)
