] [9-3]: How can I alter the saved games files to cheat?
] ======================================================
] If you have no idea how to use a HEX editor, skip this part.
] Instead, check out one of the DOOM cheat utilities.
] You can edit the DOOM saved games, and create any of the super characters
] below.	Mix and match!

...But remember that these don't work for the registered version. Neither
do the utilities. Something has changed....

] [10-2]: Where are the secret doors in DOOM?
] ===========================================
] *LEVEL TWO: You can get a chain saw on this level by entering the computer
] area....

First of all, though:
In the hall you first come to - with the large, split structure in the middle
and the two doors to your right - go around the right-hand end of the center
structure. There is a secret door in the middle of the end wall. Behind it
is a secret room containing goodies and a switch. The switch opens a secret
door in the wall, at one corner of the big U-shaped staircase behind the
doors at the right end of the main room; this door leads out into the
courtyard. Here, you will find many goodies, including your first chaingun
and two cases of ammo.

] *LEVEL THREE:  First of all, I wouldn't bother sniping from the half-door;
] you use up a lot of health from sergeants blasting you from just below with
] their shotguns....
] ..... Then run down the acid stream (out the opening that you can fit into)
] and you will come to an alcove with a switch. It is this switch, I believe,
] that triggers the bridge across the infamous acid pit. Also in that alcove
] is a secret door leading to your first chain gun....

Nope - it's your *second* chain gun. See above.

] *LEVEL FOUR: There is the two rooms at either end of that acid trench in
] one room. One leads to a switch, elevator, and a few goodies. The other
] leads to a room with a Sergeant, more goodies, a switch, and an elevator to a
] Power Charge! If you study it for a while, you may get the impression
] that is can only be done if you are playing on multiple-player mode. The
] trick is this: Back away from it. There is a pressure activated floor tile
] which will activate the elevator for you.

Tried this lots of times. I've never yet found the pressure switch, and
never yet got the Power Charge.

] *LEVEL EIGHT: No secret doors were mentioned to me on this level.

There is, to the best of my knowledge, precisely one secret door on this
level. It's in the right-hand wall of the passage shortly before the area
with the two pink-demon lairs, and there's a Power Charge behind it.

] [10-3]: What is the best way to finish level eight?
] ===================================================
] Use the chain saw and the rocket launcher for this level. At the end
] of the level, before the two "bosses," run straight ahead to the tip of
] the start while using the chain saw. Turn around and saw away at the Shadow
] Beasts.

*WHAT* Shadow Beasts? I've never run into any on this level.

By the way, the best way to kill all the pink demons in the first room is
to fire about 2-3 rockets into the middle of the group as soon as you see
them. Between the rockets and exploding fuel drums, you can incinerate the
lot in about 5 seconds flat.

] [10-4]: When should I use each weapon?
] ======================================
] SHOTGUN: This is probably the best all around weapon. Use this much of
] the time as it is very powerful. Its only problem is that its rapid fire
] is not very fast.
]
] CHAINGUN: Weak weapon for most enemies because it takes a fair amount of
] time to kill them. Good for lots of monsters in a row.

These are a matter of opinion. IMHO, the slow rate of fire of the shotgun
is a major disadvantage; use it mostly at close quarters. The chaingun
may not kill enemies quite as fast, but because it keeps on hitting them,
they can't shoot back at you while you're hosing them down. This can be
really handy for imps, and especially cacodemons if the chaingun is all
you've got. Use the chaingun against cacodemons in preference to the
rocket launcher, if you don't have a plasma rifle; it takes longer to kill
them, but you'll take less damage yourself.

] PLASMA RIFLE and BFG9000: I am waiting for reviews on these. E-mail me
] when someone gets the mail-order version!

The plasma rifle is probably the single most powerful and most useful
weapon in the entire game, though it has a prodigious appetite for ammo.
It'll toast anything, up to and including Barons of Hell. Take it easy on
the trigger, though; you can burn up 600 rounds in almost no time at all.

The BFG9000 is like a bigger and (arguably) better plasma rifle. Yes, it's
great for room-clearing.... if you can afford over a full second of charging
time between when you pull the trigger and when it goes off, and if you don't
mind burning up 40 plasma cells (yes, 40!) for each shot.

] [12-1]: DOOMEdit v3.6
] =====================
] DOOMEdit is a DOOM add-on utility that allows you to modify your
] saved games. In doing so, you can create super characters, which have
] huge amount of health and ammo, and have all the weapons, etc. This program
] allows you to toggle EVERYTHING, not just one or two things.

However, it doesn't work with the registered version. Neither does DoomEd.
