`-record' and `-playback' don't work

A friend of mine has the following prob with his registered DOOM:

Neither he can record a game nor he is able to playback a .lmp-file.

Typing

  doom -devparm -wart 1 8 -record huhu

will start the game in Ep.1/Lev.8 but no file named huhu.lmp will be
created. On the other side

  doom -devparm -playback haha

won't playback `haha.lmp', which lives in the same directory as
doom.exe.

Is this a known problem?
