I just want to step in here and say that I have played DOOM with a SB, SBPro, SB16, PAS-16, and GUS, and GUS is by far the best sound. By a huge, monstrous margin. Even if you don't factor in the music quality, the sound effects are much clearer and the panning effects are more pronounced on the GUS. I have not played DOOM with a SB16/Waveblaster combo, but I would assume the music would sound *marginally* better, based on the waveblaster MIDI demos I have heard. But not miles better. And the sound effects are just not quite as good on a SB16. I think it's a slam-dunk. Right now, there is no better sound card to play DOOM than the GUS. You might get better music with an SCC1 or WaveBlaster, but I know of no other card with better sound effects, and that's what *really* matters with DOOM. As an extra added bonus feature, the GUS mixes and pans the sound in hardware, so a slower machine should get a small boost in framerate with the GUS. --Don -- ******************************************************** * Don Munsil * If you open your mind too far, * * dmu...@netcom.com * people will throw trash in it. * ********************************************************
