Joystick, mouse, trackball, gravis pad . . .

Which is the ultimate for DooMing?  All through Wolf, Spear and now Doom 
I have stuck to my CH Flightstick while most of the great players I know 
have had great killing using a mouse or trackball.  And you know what, 
I SUCK!  

Should I switch to a mouse? Is my faith in Flightstick misplaced? or do I 
just SUCK?  I need to know before I NetDoom in DeathMatch mode.

If a mouse or trackball or 'pad is the answer, what key assignments?

I thought the consensus on this stuff should be in the FAQ.
