I was unable to ftp to either of these paths on the internet. Could someone
please let me know where I can find the workstation version of Doom for the
   internet?

Try those.machines.dont.exist.edu and
somebody.was.pulling.your.leg.com. Great game! Runs smooth as KY
jelly on my Sparc.
