The new spreadsheet proggie wants to save files as text this way, so the
format is a little different, though the throng remains the same
HAHAHAHAHA!

Sorry about that.

Thanks. I thought so. Just checking. Are there any US East people hanging
around?

They sometimes say of someone that they are "around the bend".

I think that maybe you are over the hills.

But far away?

I think not.

Sad, I know.

Thanks again Mark for keeping this up.

These two accounts are still going Mark.

> "mosfetnz","SCx","Shaun"

This is alive, but no longer played. I still have some gear here that I'm
going to move so essentially, it's a mule account. It no longer needs to be
on the list

> "nzmisfit","SCx","Shaun"

This account (along with all my mule accounts) vanished into the cracks
between universes, taking with it my 20/20 pally torch. :-(
Please de-list this one too.

Angie's not doing usenet currently. Both these accounts are dead. However
she's still playing a bit SCL on "shady_lady".

Got it, Shaun. It's in the spreadsheet, and, if the jute mill don't explode,
it'll be in the next post.

I think we all know there are a lot of people still on the list who are,
nevertheless, no longer actively with us.

No useful way of saying, "If you don't read this newsgroup any more let me
know and I'll take you off the list" has yet occurred to me.

Mark.

I know. Every month when I read it I have fond memories of playing with some
of the people listed. <sniff>

You said that you had email addys? Still, it doesn't hurt to keep folks on
the list even if it just serves to remind.

Cheers,

Hi guys, my news server doesn't list agd2, but hopefully I can still
reply/post to that one too. I'm over in agd. Which group do you folks
consider 'home'? Reading your posts regarding this spreadsheet with
the character names of oldtimers, and not knowing how many of them
aren't even playing D2 or visiting this ng anymore, made me a bit sad.
I don't play D2 anymore myself, and I'm sure my chars are all long
gone, which is ok by me... (been a hardcore wowhead for over 4 years
now), but I'm lurking around agd again in anticipation of it being a
hopping place again one day when D3 gets closer to release.

Anyways, /salute, and hopefully many of the oldtimers and folks on
that nostalgic old list will be coming back to renew old aquaintances,
once D3 gets here :-)

Hey Marshall,

I've been reading your conversation with a few of the old(er) timers in AGD.
Great to see you around again. I was mainly a lurker back when you were
active as I was playing SP due to being on rural dial-up and living in the
land of Mad D'oug and the Hamster so didn't have much to add to the
discussions. However, I sure learned a lot. I still read both groups, as
well as the new AGD3. (BTW, I see this post in AGD2...)

Perhaps I'll see you in D3, assuming my comuter will be able to play it and
it's not pay-to-play...

Cheers,
--
Shaun.

Eeek! Horrible thought....

What if D3 is DX10 (or even DX11) only? Will I have to fork out 4 x the
price of the game on Vista / Windows 7?

No idea on that one, sorry. While it's hard to know what the current
verion of DirectX will be by the time D3 is out, I haven't seen a lot
of movement by Microsoft in the direction of an 11. Many industry
people think DX9 is just fine, and that 10 was unnecessary. Guess
we'll see. Blizzard doesn't seem to be the types to limit who can play
there games, and I would be very surprised if they did anything to
eliminate DX9 players from their customer-pool.

Let's hope so huh? I'm hearing rumours that D3 and Windows 7 are both likely
to be out towards the end of the year (Xmas market) and that W7 will ship
with DX11. By that time Vista will be close to 3 years old so expecting game
programmers to programme for a 3 year/2 generation old API (DX9) could be
asking a bit nuch. Especially when the game is fully 3D and supposedly
graphics-heavy.

If DX10 is a requirement that will rule out anyone who's still using Windows
XP.

Fingers crossed.

Cheers,

No kidding! While I'm likely to have a new PC by then, I'd say it's 95%
likely that the first thing I'll DO with a new PC is wipe Vista off and
replace it with XP! ;)

While Windows 7 and D3 may be coming out around the same time, and
Windows 7 *may* only support native DX11 (hadn't heard this myself, so
no idea if that's only a rumor or not), you have to remember that just
because something new like that comes out, doesn't mean 100% of the
world's computer users instantly switch to it overnight :-)

It will take years for a majority of PC users to switch to Windows 7
and whatever DX version it supports, there will be relatively few
people using it initially. And Blizzard is developing D3 right now,
and right now, the majority of gamers in the world are still using
Windows XP with DX9 video cards. Vista is starting to make inroads
into that finally, after 3 years, but Blizzard isn't going to make a
game that comes out within a year or so that will totally cut out all
of those XP/DX9 users, I guarantee it. It's way too early for them to
start saying "Oh, DX11 is coming, time to dump half or more of our
customer base and force them to suck eggs or buy new computers!"

Not going to happen, so stop worrying :-) If they do program D3 to be
able use the cool features in DX10 (very likely, probable I would say)
and possibly 11 (who knows), they will still also make it so you can
toggle off those features for compatibility with DX9. Many games made
since Vista/DX10 came along have been made that way, so you can use
either DX9 or DX10 depending on your OS and video card. Don't see
Blizzard doing any different. Again, Blizzard is a savvy bunch when it
comes to making money, they aren't going to cut out a majority of
their potential customers. It may not play as fast or pretty as it
would on new hardware and DX10+, but it will play.
I'd bet money on that.

I would not count on being able to do that. (wanting to do that, really)

Better to build your own rig, or configure one somewhere online with a raw
hard drive.

Well Dell still offer a downgrade to XP, which they wouldn't if it
didn't work I'm guessing. It's just cheaper to do it myself ;)

I'm not doubting you, Evil One, I have just heard from some people who tried
to go down from Vista to XP that it was problematic.

What they are proably talking about is just installing XP to begin with and
the "downgrade" is just a matter of wording. That is, I don't think they are
talking about first installing Vista then wiping the machine and installing
XP.

Just my two piasters worth.

That is usually because, for some newer machines, there aren't device
drivers released for XP by the manufacturer. However, some companies (like
Dell) still write drivers for XP so can still offer a 'downgrade'.

Hmmm, what's that in real money? ;-)
