Open the speedbook, not spellbook.  Press "S" or click on the readied
spell button at the lower right corner.

You got to open your spell list with the 's' key instead of the
'b' key. It gives you a different listing of your spells and allows
you to assign hotkeys to them.

Confused the hell outta me too.. Don't open your spell book. Hit the 'S' key 
so the spell icons pop up all over your screen, then highlight the one you
want to assign to a hotkey and press the key you want it assigned to.

You nee to use the "S" Hotkey to open up the spell icons, not use the Spell
button which opens up your entire spell book...

        It works. Not exactly as you've been trying it tho'...

        To make it work, do this:


        Click on the Speedbook button (The square in the lower right corner) 
and all your spells/scrolls should get listed. Place the mouse over one of the 
spells above the INterface and hit F5 to F8. That's how it works for me. 
Personalities of different computers may cause it to do otherwise. :)

you can type "s" to access the spell book too.

do yourself a favor and try reading the manual at sometime OTHER than
02:30 am.  You need to use the spell hot key.  In other words, press
's'.  Do not open the spell book.  It won't ,as you know, work.

Open the speedbood ('S' key). place your cursor over the spell you want to 
assign to a hotkey, then hit the hotkey itself (F5-F8)

Along these lines.. has anyone figured out how to reassign the 'macro' keys 
(F9-F12) new text?

To assign function keys, hit 'S' to open your speedbook, it will list
all your spells.  Position the cursor over the spell you want then hit
the F-key you want to assign to it.  Speedbook is different from
spellbook.

1) Hit 's' to open spell popup toolbar
2) Move cursor over spell, do not click
3) Hit function key to remap spell the that key
4) Repeat for #2 and #3 three times
5) Hit 's' to close spell popup toolbar
6) Hit a bunch of function keys while saying "Oh, cool"
7) Right click ot cast chosen spell
8) Start new game
9) Hit function keys while saying "What the hell, why didnt this
   game save my aliases, I have to make them all again now?!"

Yeah, click on the box that shows your current spell, when you get the one
or two rows of spells you have, put your mouse over one (so it's hilighted)
and press F5-F8. Works great... can't use it through the spell book..
