Diablo over Kali SLOOWWW

Ok, after failing all evening to logon to battle.net, my friend and I
tried to play Diablo over Kali. We connected to a very fast server, and
our ping times were in the 300 range.

But Diablo still barfed big time. We kept timing out on each other. Yes,
we both have the latest version of Kali 1.1g2.

Anybody have any luck playing Diablo with Kali and getting good
performance?

Later... Allen

I have tried to use Kali with Diablo but it didn't work. Diablo
doesn't recognize the IPX network and Kali doesn't display the game of
the name (Diablo) after the game has been launched.
How do you configure Kali and Diablo ?

Thanks

Well many of my friends and myself manage to play diablo over kali without any
timeout when only 2 players are in the game.
>From the time a 3rd player comes in, the game often starts to drop players and
to have frequent timeouts.
Occasionnally it works fine, but most of the time, it's only playable between 2
players.

For info, we're also playing on a fast server and we have pings from 300 to 500.

You need Kali v1.1g2 beta.
Look for it at ftp://ftp.kali.net/pub/kali/beta/

Well why not just use battle.net? With a good 28.8k connect Diablo
runs as fast as the several modem and LAN games I have played.

I'm a Kali user, but I haven't used Diablo over it. What does
battle.net cost? Kali was just $20 for life.

You don't have to pay a cent.

Yeah, my post was misleading. I don't own it, yet. I've got to get a
better system.

So far, Battle.net is free, and it looks like Blizzard will keep it that
way. But I am motivated to use other means such as Kali because tens of
thousands of users log onto Battle.net and lags the place to death.
Although Battle.net seems to have dozens of servers to support many
people, I think there are just too many people. One time I got locked
out of Battle.net for hours.
Kali should be able to provide better and wide-spread server support. I
just hope that the new versions of Kali can run net-Diablo faster.

Battle.net seems to be suffering from its own success. Try to get on
around 10 at night and the lag is massive if it lets you on at all. Kali
takes away the dependance on Battle.net and if you allow Kali to drop
packets, it is actually faster.

If you allow Kali to drop packets to speed up game then Diablo is great.
My brother and I had 600ms ping times and still found Diablo over Kali a
hell of a lot better than Battle.net. If real hectic it can get a little
jumpy but it's better than timing out all over the place and getting locked
out of Battle.net

I'm using 1.1H2 which might make a little difference as well.

Rod.
